How They Got Here
Cilic beat Santoro, Tomic, Wawrinka.
Del Potro beat Russell, Blake, Mayer

I really want to see Roddick and Del Potro go at it, but I gotta go with Cilic in this. Del Potro hasnt looked sharp for his standards, and Cilic will have confidence after beating a very respectable opponent Wawrinka.

If Cilic can win the 1st set this time, I dont think hes loosing his lead. Cilic in 4

its going to be a good match but in the end, i pick cillic in 4. it may go to 5 if he plays passive tennis like he did with tomic. in that case, i cant predict who wins.

this is the kinda stuff your fantasies are made up of. ;) i want to *drool* see a 5 setter

lol ... I'd like it too ..... I'm just not sure Delpo's got another 5setter in him after that Blake match... well, come to think of it, all his matches have gone more than 3 ..... Hopefully, it won't be too hot, because if it is, Cilic might have an edge what with Delpo's wrist/forearm

I'm not too concerned about the first set, because that's when Delpo usually figures his opponent out. Of course, he's already got a plan for playing Cilic baesd on his previous wins over him ......... What I am concerned about, tho, is the time of the match (plus his wrist/arm problem). There are two women's matches before Cilic/delPotro, and the first one has Jie Zheng, oh she of the 3-hour matches at the Olympics 2008 ....... so if play begins at 11:00, it could be anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours before Delpo/Marin play. ...... Del was starting to cramp up during his Mayer match with the hot, muggy weather.

I haven't seen Cilic play yet. Is he having any injury problems? How is he responding to the weather conditions? :?:

you should have seen Cilic in his game with Tomic - an absolute stinker.

didnt know how he managed to beat Wawrinka but now against a injured/disinterested/under-performing Delpo, its probably his best chance to win

Delpo in 4 sets - if it goes to a 5 setter i think Cilic might nick it

That does it ..... I don't want to agree but I also can't disagree. Therefore, I'm forced to vote ...... well, I was gonna say for Delpo in 4, but considering Marin repeated at Chennai and Delpo didn't play a tourny in January ...... I'll just have to figure that Del's desire to at least equal his last year's performance and make the quarters will force him to stay in it thru 5 if that's what it takes and that somehow his sense memory will get him thru it with a win.

Del Potro in 4 sets. Del Potro isnt playing great but he is winning and all he has ever done vs Cilic is win.

Should be a good match. Crazy forehand error day versus the aust. kid for cilic, but delpo is going to give cilic plenty of pace to work with. I am rooting for a cilic upset of delpo so roddick might have an easier time with cilic. ha ha.

Del Potro hasn't been playing to his usual high standard. I'm wondering if his wrist is bothering him every match or not. I think Cilic is the form player, so I'm picking him in 5 sets.

No love for Delpo here?

Delpo Delpo Delpo in 5! He can do it! :)

I'm torn. I want to see him do it, but I don't want Rafa to have to face him.

(Plus, like others have said, I'm not sure about that wrist. As well as James was playing, I'm not sure it would've gone to five if Polito hadn't been hurt already.)

Though Rafa has it tough from here on in no matter what.

Other than Murray, either Cilic or Delpo will pose a challenge to Rafa. I am looking forward to Rafa stepping up and take his game up a notch from today's match and onwards. If Nadal can't take down Cilic or Delpo, I don't think he will have what it takes to win AO this year.

So you're putting on the tinfoil 'rigged draw' hat. Good luck with that. It's random - get over it. Over the course of a long career it evens out. Take a statistics course...

Cilic was taken to 5 hard sets by 17 yo wildcard Tomic a few nights ago

Delpo in 4 or 5 (probably 4)

why do you always have some critism on cilic
ok his match against tomic was really bad but played well against stan
haha delpo is injured!
that´s a joke how could he win against a great playing james blake with an injury
hmm nice excuse
i´m going with cilic in tight 5 sets

why do you question somebody criticizing Cilic and then turn around and criticize Delpo?

Pot calling the kettle black. Delpo in 5. Hope Cilic doesn't have crazy ****s like you in the future.

I think this match is similar to the Hewitt-Baggy match, well including if Baggy hadn't retired. Both players are quite evenly matched. I reckon it will be an exciting 3-4 hour marathon.....

All the best Delpo!
