I dont want to let this possible sensational *event* die :

Mac v Williams: Battle of the Sexes round III

I think the Williams sisters "chickened out" !
Lets keep the pressure on by showing our interest ...

Who wants to see this matchup ???

I think Mac will beat both of them in sucession thus correcting history and the Bobby Riggs v BJK farse, he did not try to win :(

I assume you are talking about John McEnroe vs. Venus Williams. John would destroy Venus. I would be very surprised if Venus got more than 3 games.

Yea, but I would put my money on Venus in an arm wrestling contest.

Mac Enroe wouldn't be allowed to step on the same court as Venus Williams, because his game is too weak, so it would throw off her rythm, and bring her down to what she would call "his low level", unacceptable for a diva like her.

And a match bewteen Serena Williams and Mac Enroe would mean nothing, because you know, Serena would play only at 5%, as usual.

Johnny Mac would throw in all these funny spins and volleys and then it would like totally mess up their level.

Why would any tennis fan want to see an event which undermines its merit as a "real" sport?
I agree that McEnroe will destroy the Williams sisters and they will issue their usual comments, but, please I don't want to watch a freak show in the name of tennis. There are already plenty to enjoy for anyone that has a taste for a circus.

I didn't think there was a reason for checking this thread out. I was wrong.

Thanks!

Why are the Williams sisters still considered the best players in the world? Last I checked, Sharapova was #1. Let Mac play her.

I'm up to see any McEnroe v. anybody match. I love to watch this guy play his serve volley game and all of his crazy antics. We could leave the Williams out of it now though; they don't dominate tennis anymore and nobody wants to hera their post match interview where they explain that they lost because Mac was just so much worse than them or something like that.

why is there a thread for this..u kno any male pro in the top 200 can beat any top women.
I do completely believe that but there is a large percentage of the population that thinks otherwise :)

Top 200, probably any top 500 player (Kuznetsov, Jenkins, Odesnik) could beat the likes of Sharapova, Henin, Serena, Venus and Clijsters in straight sets.

It is not a probability, it is a fact.

When Martina Navratilova made her challenge, that should could beat the #100 man in the world if she got to choose surface, here's what two other pros said:

Chris Evert - "A good college player can beat the top women."

Vitas Gerulaitis - "I'd bet my house that she couldn't." At the time, his home was valued at over one million dollars.

If there was going to be a nother battle of the sexes, you would have to get the both number ones to determine the better sex, not an 80 year old commentator
Federer vs Sharapova/Davenport whoever finishes first
No doubt that federer would win 6-0 6-0

Disagree ...
Old man Bobby Riggs beat top lady player Margaret Court then loss (fixed?) to BJK a little later.
His first win was a victory for male superiority and the next loss was salvation for the ladies tour.
Mac vs Serena (or both Williams) would be the best marketing plan and again prove, once and for all ?, male superiority.
Fed vs Sharapova/Davenport would be a boring joke !

I bet if Venus was playing her absolute best, she could give Mac some trouble. Afterall, she serves bigger. In all fairness, you can never say what would happen. I wouldn't be surprised if Venus was more powerful off the ground.

That could be the case at the professional level, but at my High School State Championships, one of the team's no.1 girl was damn good. Of course that teams ended up winning state, but even the boy's team from that school said that she gives their no.1 trouble, and could beat him. This girl had to be at least a 6.0 player. So my point is that lesser men could beat top women, but that's only the case at the pro level, collegiate level, or just extremely advanced players in general. At slightly lower levels (say 4.5 an below) that Women could very well beat a similar rated man. Reason being that at these levels there are a lot more unforced errors and double faults occur. So let's say a female 4.0 player for instance whose game is built on consistantcy versus a male 4.0, who is a bit more powerful and a risk taker, could very well be beaten by the female. Because like I said, unforced errors play a bigger role in lower levels of tennis than at the pro level. I don't know, it's hard to explain. I could use me for instance. I am a 4.5-5.0 player. My good friend who is a 4.5 lady always calls me up to play. Normally, I beat her routinely like 6-1,6-2 on average, but sometimes she can get a tiebreak 7-6 set. Because her game is built on consistentcy. So yes, men typically have an edge, but like I said at the pro level it's all about point construction and hitting winners, the same applies to lower club tennis except unforced errors are much more plentiful usually. Do I make any sense?

I have no doubt that top 100 could beat any woman; the only question is at what point a woman could beat a man. I saw JHH smoking serve returns from a boys junior at USO practice. Just humilating every one to the point where he was shaking his head. Now we all know that a pretty good junior can still only be about the level of 700 in world. Not sure where the line would be drawn. I think a very top woman could beat Donald Young at his current level. But its just speculation, I may be wrong.

Mc would destroy either sister. They'd make excuses or fake an injury ( as usual) to mask the real reason. I turn the tv off whenever either sister play. I'm tired of all their hype and "we are so much the underdogs" song and dance. Way tired of all that Williams Family Circus.

I'd love to see this match...but most people know..with any intelligence..that top 800 or so men would be the top women/....even the number 1....

Wertheim once said in his column that the number 6 for UCLA could probably beat the top female, but so what? He didn't particular care for the debate but I sure do.

You look at the people Serena has lost to this year, and it's funny that some of the people here think her power would give her the edge over Mac. I think even Serena will admit that Boris Becker, a guy Mac beats on the senior tour, hits much harder than her.

Maybe if you had them standing on the baseline and fed them balls, then yeah, maybe Serena can hit "harder" than John Mac, but in a match Mac would barely have to try to get Serena and Venus so confused that they would never get a chance to unleash. He really wouldn't even have to try, and if you televised it Mac would salivate at the chance to play Serena or Venus. Of course, they probably know better at this point than to do it. They have absolutely nothing to gain and the whole WTA tour has a lot to lose. They already got ripped by a two-packs a day, just drank a six pack Borsch, and he admitted he didn't really try. He didn't go for big serves and he said that basically all he did was put a lot of spin on the ball. He was ranked 201 or so at the time he beat them. The girls changed their claim to they could beat anybody outside the top 300 and I read he laughed and told them he was losing a lot of points that week, so to come back when he was outside the top 300 in a few days.

  Everyday I'd prefer to face Venus Williams' serve instead of Mac Enroe's vicious spinny lefty serves.

It says so much when people suggest that Venus can beat Mac. It just speaks volumes about the person. I usually hear it from people who don't play tennis at all. Those people, the ones that don't play, believe that Serena could beat a skinny guy with such fervor that nothing you say can make them believe otherwise.

But how a tennis player can believe it is stupefying.

And when I hear peoples stating that Serena's supposed superior power might give some troubles to the old school Mac Enroe, I'd like them to remember than Mac Enroe never overpowered his opponants even when he was N°1 in the world, it was not a problem for him to dominate a player like Lendl who was far more powerful than him or Serena Williams.

And I recently saw Mac enroe playing on the senior tour, and I can say that when he wants, his balls travel the courts as fast as Serena Williams best shots, it sometimes looks like his strokes are more powerful than 20 years ago, so Serena's power advantage is only a myth.

This "match" would signal the absolute END of tennis' popularity. Tennis players would be the worldwide laughingstocks after a disaster like this. What a charade!!!!

I question the intelligence of anyone who thinks ANY of the WTA women could make a match interesting against ANY of the men on the Senior Tour.

Because of the detrimental effect of Academy Tennis, I do suspect their are some current ATP men who might lose to JHH. (But she's the ONLY one....)

Henin Hardenne would have less hope against a male pro than Venus! If Venus played a total blinder she's strong enough to take it somewhere - JHH is too short and not strong enough - she'd be blown off the court by any male pro.
