Macbook Pro lagging issue.

Hey guys,

I was wondering if I could get some advice from posters that have an aptitude for computers.

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro laptop which has recently started to act up. Sometimes when I am watching a HD tennis highlight clip or match the video randomly starts seizing up. The graphics in the video become jerky and it is unbearable to continue watching the video. That is not the worst part. When the video starts slowing down, the entire computer starts acting up. The trackpad starts lagging with the video and navigation becomes a serious issue.

Majority of the time the laptop is fine, but it randomly starts acting up in the manner I just described.

Any thoughts on what the issue is?

Do you have a lot of other applications open? Is it streaming from the web or stored on your computer? Have you run CLamXav or any anti-virus programs? Is it only when you watch videos?

No, usually I am only on a browser with multiple tabs open. I used my anti-virus which detected nothing, but I use a free program which is probably not the best at detecting viruse. Yes,the onset of this always occurs on a youtube video.

if its on youtube, it's a glitch that has to do with OSX Lion. Usually this is rectified by turning down quality to 360p from 480p but it's still pretty annoying

Have you tried watching on some other browsers to check whether its a browser issue.

FlyingHippos, I had Lion, but I downgraded back down to Snow Leopard. Lion was a disaster for me. I really rely on MS word and with Lion it took an year to just open a new document. Youtube was working just fine on 720p videos just 2-3 weeks ago. Don't know what happened.

Sentinel, I did try other browsers. I use Google Chrome normally, but when I opened Safari and Firefox they were even worse.

Another interesting thing about these random slow moments is that the computer starts working normally after 5 minutes. Unfortunately, it happens frequently enough to become a nuisance.

Reinstalling the Flash plugin might help. Go to the Adobe website and download the latest version of the plugin.

It might be a problem with you r service rather than the computer. I'd run some anti-virus to make sure nothing jacked up is happening.

Check your activity monitor and system profiler as well, it might show if it is stalling from the computer end or the internet service.

That's a bit surprising. I was told that you have to wait a few hours for Lion to do its indexing, then it becomes fast.

About the second issue, frequently when scrolling , i don't get a response, and there are times when suddenly the system just stalls. Then it comes on again. But overall, its okay, i love working with full-screen on Terminal.

Sadly, postfix has stopped working in Lion, and i have failed to fix it, so part of my workflow is suffering. Nope, i cant take the risk of going back to SL. Too much work at present. Hoping things will iron out.

I am using Firefox 8, no issues with watching youtube videos as yet.
