MacEnroe said Tiafoe was winded? These are athletes, right?

I find no excuse for Tiafoe getting tired or winded during a match...doesn't he do tennis for a living?

Seriously, he is paid well, hires trainers, does not, to my understanding, work a 9-5 desk job...

Isn't the adrenaline enough to keep one going in this situation, unless you're so nervous that you just end up vomiting on court...weak sauce...weak...weak...

Some players are stronger than others, some are more gifted with stamina

Tiafoe has a lot of muscle, and bad mechanics. Put on top of that the mental strain/tightness and he was done.

Stop projecting your own flaws onto Tiafoe.

He did keep going. Tiafoe didn't retire from the match, or lie down on the court and demand to be carried off in a stretcher. He kept playing, but his performance level noticeably declined, whether from fatigue or nerves or both. An epinephrine jolt can keep one's body moving, but it can't suddenly enhance a refined, complicated set of actions such as playing tennis points.

Tennis players are human, after all. Tiafoe has never competed at this level before, so it's not surprising he hit the wall in the fifth set of a Majors semi. Just because you're a pro doesn't mean you can't experience a drop in performance at some point.

Tiafoe is a joke of a player tbh, in any other era would not be top 50. Last night was abysmal standard of tennis.

One thing ppl don't get about Tiafoe is he's actually one of the slowest hitters on tour. He gets it done with guile. Spins, chips/blocks, etc

For Smash players, he kills you with tilt attacks not Smash attacks

frances had a poor serving performance on a night he needed to be better than his normal level.
not sure why so much hate for a guy trying his best. he has already surpassed expectations at this open, so job well done tiafoe.

he has too much muscle. much more than most tennis players. maybe if he was leaner it would help his endurance...

Spoken from people who probably DO work 9-5 jobs and have no idea what its like to have to perform under pressure, at max physical capacity, in a competitive setting LOL

How many of you get up for work in the morning feeling tired, even after a decent sleep? It happens to everyone.

Nevermind the fact he probably slept horribly, with excitement about competing in a slam SF, but hes expected to be a machine everytime he steps onto a court, just because hes 'an athlete'.

Armchair sportspeople at its best on TTW.
