Mackenzie McDonald playing in both Cincinnati and Winston-Salem today

Cincy doubles final starts at 1 p.m. Winston-Salem first round match starts at 8.30 p.m.

He’d better hope there’s no rain in Cincinnati this afternoon!

This puts the Olympic action of Musetti and Cerundolo to shame.

He better have a private jet. No direct flights from Cincy to Winston Salem or Greensboro.

Yes, he must be flying privately. Perhaps one or both of the events is paying for a charter. Michelsen - McDonald’s doubles partner in Cincy - probably sharing the flight, as he will play in Winston-Salem tomorrow or maybe Wednesday.

I was surprised to see that McDonald’s career earnings are almost $6 million - he has been playing a while, though.

Doubles match ended around 2:25. Add in ceremony and press conference, and I doubt McDonald has even left Cincy yet. Meanwhile, the match in Winston-Salem starts in 310 minutes.

Neither he nor Michelsen is playing doubles.

Michelsen is in his last week as a teen - he turns 20 on Sunday. Quite the jet setting way to end his teen years.

A private jet is going to run around $10k per hour plus fuel. Seems unlikely.

It's a short flight. A King Air would be around 2k.

The uncertain flight time would add to the cost though - pilot would have had to be good to go at any point between 3 and 5 pm EST.

Still, they could afford it, and may have had tourney help. Plus it makes for a fun story to tell the grandkids about their jet-setter days.

Ten years ago, I gave a presentation at a conference in Seattle in the morning and at another in Los Angeles in the late afternoon. I flew commercially, of course! It was a tight schedule but a fun memory. And, yes, work paid for my transportation.

The hardest part was it was two different presentations, so I had to spend the flight prepping the second one.

Doubles finalist isn’t just any doubles player. Or perhaps USTA? Or McDonald and Michelsen split the cost - Michelsen plays in WS tomorrow - perhaps? Not that Michelsen is very wealthy yet.
Not how Mac has been doing this year, but here are the payouts. To your point, they split that amount. However, they have coaches to pay and other expenses.

Doubles

Winners: USD 322,000 and 1,000 ATP points
Runners-up: USD 174,920 and 600 ATP points
Semi-finalists: USD 96,090 and 360 ATP points
Quarter-finalists: USD 53,010 and 180 ATP points

Those are around $3,500 per hour and they are a little slower. But to your point, it is a shorter flight.
I used to work in the charter business in Charlotte. Been a few years since I've seen any pricing. I'd fly Mac in my Piper Warrior 2 for under $1000 but we'd never make it in time. LOL

McDonald withdrew from Winston-Salem.

Late withdrawal so will be interesting to know his reasons. Maybe he felt too tired after the Cincy doubles final to hop on a flight.
