Mad respect for Del Potro

He stepped on the court like an old Clint Eastwood. The entire time his body language was "I'm tired, but I'll try".

This tournament has been absolutely awful. Congrats to Nadal and all since he's the only one who actually wants to win (besides Shapo), but jeez there was one good match this entire two weeks.

I am kind of used to this DelPo letdowns. The problem is the hope he gives us of something better happening.

Delpo was serving very well, hitting the FH and the BH was decent in the first set but still not his best.

When the second set came he dripped down in everything, serve, movement, both wings.

Surprisingly he just could hardly play.

I was waiting for a final push but more poor everything the rest of the match.

Rafa picked up on the weakness and made plays that would require Delpo to run hard, DTL shots and dropshots.

You may get away with that with some players, Nadal isn't one of them.

It must have been the cold he had the other day is still draining him.

Well, I congratulate Nadal and fans.

I feel like I "know" Del Potro well enough to know that sudden loss of will and belief very likely would have happened had Fed not crapped away that third set.

Delpo may have crumbled against Fed too had Fed made him really work.

When Delpo won against Thiem he was lucky there too.

Still a great result :). I didn't think he'd even beat Thiem. Or Fed. Didn't expect him to surprise me 3/3 times haha. Especially since Nadal really hasn't been taxed this tournament at all.

Delpo played great in the first set, but as usual he ran out of steam. He was already playing on an empty tank going into the match. He drove until empty with his match against Federer and didn't have enough days off to refill.

By the way, how many feet do you estimate Nadal was standing behind the baseline returning serve in the first set? He was so far back that the camera behind him only showed him waist up. The wall blocked the view of his legs. On other camera angles, it looked like he stood only a couple feet in front of the line judges.
