While I'm posting stuff, I created this chart with how often a match was picked in Round One. It's not finished yet as I was going to do a calculation for how often it was picked correctly and overlay it, but since I won't get to it today...

Hopefully less work tomorrow so I can watch matches and what not. :)

If it wasn't for that one fluke Querrey/Munoz result which no one in their right mind expected,

What, me worry? :-D

#47 replaces my Lopez/Roddick pick .................
47. E Gulbis (LAT) v F Lopez (ESP) - (10-10) = 11th Gulbis
45. [8] M Cilic (CRO) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (10-10) = 12th Ferrer

Just a head's up, in case Lopez does withdraw, the Gulbis/Lopez match will be void.

This is my replacement pick IF Lopez withdraws.

43. [3] A Murray (GRB) v V Hanescu (ROU) - (4-22) - 13th Hanescu

Melzer was losing sets to the likes of Kevin Anderson and Mardy Fish (on clay), I certainly didn't see it coming.

Of course I didin't see much of anything coming all week in any of the TT games so maybe it's just me. :D

QUARTERFINALS:

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10)
50. [12] G Monfils (FRA) v [2] R Nadal (ESP) - (18-6)
51. [1] R Federer (SUI) v E Gulbis (LAT) - (4-28 )
52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14)

After the way he played today I think I'm leaning towards Fed in this match, but I can't resist.

51. [1] R Federer (SUI) v E Gulbis (LAT) - (4-28 ) - Pick #16: Gulbis

A Few Things:

  1. I hope this means we're doing the French Open. I've enjoyed the game and it should be fun to try this during a grand slam. Nick and I put 32 matches for the GS, but I think other places where they play this game, they pick fewer matches. Do we want to do 32 or fewer or more? I'm for 32. There are 127 matches at the slams.
  2. And we should also come up with a scale for the overall rankings. I've no preference in that regard. EX: First place, 1000 for a Masters, 2000 for a GrandSlam or something lower like a 100 for a Masters Winner and 80 for second place, etc.
  3. Third, do we want like the SDL (and what other places that play this game) where the top 8 in the overall rankings get to play the WTF? And if so, do they pick all the WTF matches?

And I'm off to get crushed in a water polo game. :)

29. [5] A Roddick (USA) vs. F Lopez (ESP) - (5-19) Lopez 9th

I didn't change my Nalbandian pick so I suppose that is voided.

I will replace it with

38. [10] M Youzhny (RUS) vs. E Gulbis (LAT) - (8-13) Gulbis 2nd

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10) Almagro 10th
50. [12] G Monfils (FRA) v [2] R Nadal (ESP) - (18-6) Nadal 11th
51. [1] R Federer (SUI) v E Gulbis (LAT) - (4-28 ) Gulbis 12th
52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14) Murray 13th

- I like 32.

- I like 1000 point for winning a Masters, etc. Would it work to basically stick to the ATP points system? So for this tournament and other 1000s, one W (#1, 1000), one F (#2, 600), two SF (#3-4, 360), four QF (#5-8, 180), eight R16 (#9-16, 90), sixteen R32 (#17-32, 45). Or does that group too many players together in the R16 and R32 category. Others' thoughts on a possible modified version of this?

- Yes, I like the top 8. Not sure about picking every match, since selectively choosing your matches to pick seems like a fundamental part of the game. Thirteen total matches. Maybe pick four?

Idea #1
32 sounds good to me

Idea #2

Well, I like the idea of using our ranking system just like the ATP does as in the champions get the full 1000 or 2000 depending on the event. I don't know if we are going to be doing other events yet, but that is up to NYKings and Seffina as well.

After the tournament is over, I'll calculate everyone's rankings and we will decide how to allocate the points from there.

Idea #3
As for the WTF, I was thinking about this the other day, and I want to make the game for everyone, not just for the top 8, so I vote not to limit the WTF just for the top 8, it'll make it more exciting I believe

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10) 12th pick: Almagro
52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14) 13th pick: Ferrer

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10) 14th Almagro

51. [1] R Federer (SUI) v E Gulbis (LAT) - (4-28 ) 15th Gulbis

52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14) 16th Ferrer

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10) 11th Melzer

51. [1] R Federer (SUI) v E Gulbis (LAT) - (4-28 ) 12th Gulbis

52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14) 13th Ferrer

Hey do I get my 8th pick back because roddick withdrew?

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10) 8th melzer

If I don't get that pick than 14th melzer

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10) - 14th Almagro
51. [1] R Federer (SUI) v E Gulbis (LAT) - (4-28 ) - 15th Gulbis
52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14) - 16th Ferrer

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10) - Almagro
50. [12] G Monfils (FRA) v [2] R Nadal (ESP) - (18-6) - Nadal
51. [1] R Federer (SUI) v E Gulbis (LAT) - (4-28 ) - Gulbis
52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14) - Ferrer

49. J Melzer (AUT) v N Almagro (ESP) - (10-10) - 15th Almagro
52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14) - 16th Ferrer

52. [3] A Murray (GBR) v [9] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14) - 15th Ferrer

That Gulbis/Roger match is tempting because of the points, but I can't do it. It's impossible for me to pick against Federer even in this context.
