WELCOME TO 2011 MADRID MASTERS PREDICTION LEAGUE!
Anyone at any time can play, so join in on the fun starting Sunday, May 1st!

HOW TO PLAY:​

For EVERY match, predict the winner and the number of sets it will take for the winning player to win the match. (EX: [1]R Nadal (ESP) vs [5] A Murray (GBR) - Murray in 4) If you predict the correct winner but in the wrong number of sets, you'll get THREE POINTS. If you predict both the correct winner and the correct number of sets, you’ll get FIVE POINTS.

Each predictor is also able to pick the winner and runner up of the tournament before the FIRST MATCH. At the conclusion of the tournament, two points will be given to each predictor who predicts a correct FINALIST and an additional three points if the FINALIST finishes in their predicted position of WINNER or RUNNER UP.

You can edit a pick until a particular match starts, however, please always make a new post quoting the original pick. DO NOT EDIT THE ORIGINAL POST.

PREDICTION LEAGUE DOUBLES HEAD TO HEAD CONTEST:​

In addition to the regular tournament, each participant can pair up with another one and participate in a doubles tournament.

The doubles tournament is run similar to the FIFA World Cup. There are round robin rounds where you and your partner compete against doubles teams in your group. The top two or three teams from your group then move on to the knockout rounds. The exact format will depend on the number of doubles teams.

  • Random Memory: This tourny last year had the crazy double lucky loser situation followed by two other retirements in the same day.

AAHAH. Love the reference to Nadal and Djokovic on the poll. Very clever to combine the names.

Damn, I remember that day crazy day with the multiple LLs and retirements. I had many e-mails that day from my H2H partner about changing my picks like 5 times

I will add my two my piece about the H2H #1 ranking scenario later on tonight.

I can't decide on who to vote for. It's hard. aphex is the seasoned veteran. kish is hot right now, but aphex is better on clay from the last two years of his play. Hmm... :)

I'm in, I hope Augustus will join me. My points last tournament would have been pretty high, had i not missed the one day due to flu which actually cost us 2 or 3 days (rounds), since rounds were overlapping (u know what i mean).

You missed Blink-manly-hero-bodyREALtennisVerdascism in the poll.

Verdasco plans to bagel Raonic so savagely Raonic's great grandchidren will have a phobia of pastries.

H2H #1 RANKINGS UPDATE:

There are currently 4 players that can be ranked #1 at the end of the Madrid Masters event: mtr1, Stefan83, Augustus and NYKings.

After dropping the 2010 Madrid results, Augustus is currently in the driver's seat to reclaim the #1 ranking.

Here are the points after dropping the 2010 Madrid points:
Augustus: 7,360 points
mtr1/Stefan83: 7,270 points
NYKings: 6,780 points

Scenario 1: If Augustus finishes 4th in RR
mtr1 and Stefan83 will need to reach Qualifying Round to gain a tie at #1 AND NYKings CANNOT win the title

Scenario 2: If Augustus finishes 3rd in RR
mtr1 and Stefan83 will need to reach the Quarter Finals to gain a tie at #1 AND NYKings CANNOT win the title

Scenario 3: If Augustus loses in QR or QF
mtr1 and Stefan83 will need to finish at least in 4th place to stay as #1 AND NYKings CANNOT win the title

Scenario 4: If Augustus finishes in 4th place
mtr1 and Stefan83 will need to finish at least in 3rd to gain a tie of #1 AND NYKings CANNOT win the title

Scenario 5: If Augustus finishes in 3rd place
mtr1 and Stefan83 will need to finish at least in runner-up position AND NYKings CANNOT win the title

Scenario 6: If Augustus finishes as runner-ups
mtr1 and Stefan83 will need to win the title

Scenario 7: If Augustus finishes wins the title
Augustus will regain the #1 ranking

These are all of the scenarios where the #1 ranking can change.

Aaaw, I would love to include Blink, but he has no chance at #1 here. He's behind by more than 20 points to the top two and he's defending a win here.

He did coin the term, it's only fitting. He was also associated with Nadal at the WTF (and Blink with Murray) and that worked out well. Good times, good times.

Hmm hopefully Breaker confirms entry soon, would hate to have to play with out him, plus I think he has points to defend here as well, or maybe it's Rome.

Either I'm just happy to be done with most everything (school wise). Good timing for this tournament as I pretty much start my Summer vacation as it starts.

I had an idea on how to add another element to the game. I think this would be something special just for the Grand Slams though because I don't know if everyone would want to do this for each tournament that we have this game. Please forgive me if this is a stupid idea.

Could we maybe pick the Qualifiers? I'm not talking about predicting every qualifying match, but I mean, before Qualies start, go through and pick which player will qualify out of each section. For each one that you get right, 1 point is added on to the tournament total.

Oh well, like I said, just an idea!

I'm not against it, but qualifiers at slams are often really, really unknown players. If many are interested in the idea, we can try it out at RG. If not, we'll chug along. :)
