Good play by Zverev, but not a good one from Thiem.

I think Rome will be too early for him and he might even need to play Geneva to get in some decent form for the FO.

But hopefully, he peaks at the FO to an extent.

Well, Zed basically just locked up his first Masters title in 3 years.
Don't rush. The Felidae family doesn't give up.

Tim is nowhere near his best. Never saw him play this dejected after going down a set. He usually grinds things down.

But Zverev IS scary rn. If he carries this form to RG and Thiem and Rafael don't wake up, he might win it all

Nah, Zverev is not beating Djokovic in BO5. He can beat any other player, but against Djokovic he will play like a total mug.

That double break turned out to be crucial. Good to see he did not do a Flushing Fold.

The final will either make him Bear-attini down or avoid a Ruud awakening if he is to become a multiple Madrid champion.

Beating Nadal and Thiem back-to-back on clay is no joke. I wouldn’t bet on anyone else in the world doing it. Hope he doesn’t have a letdown in the final emotionally as he deserves the title after this double-knockout. I’m not a fan, but give him grudging credit for his solid serving and baseline play this week.

He pushed Novak to the limit at the AO from the baseline also and lost because of some characteristic service yips when up a break in a couple of sets.

Zverev serving like this with consistency and no hickups could be in contention of every title. He is such a well rounded player and with that serve it makes him much more of a force.

His serving consistency is the only thing that really prevents him from dominating, and the part that has held him back these years. But when he finds his groove like this week, he is a hard man to beat.

Paris last year where he lost to medvedev after beating Wawrinka and Nadal back to back
Beating Thiem and Nadal on clay is not quite the same as beating Ned and Stan indoors. And Med on an indoor HC is much better than either Berrettini or Ruud on clay.

Zverev in the post-match interview:
We both played against each other in the biggest matches. ATP1000 finals. Grand Slam finals.

Zverev lost his mind.
He is seriously thinking that he played in multiple GS finals.

The AO QF 2021 sadly proved this. Djokovic was there for the taking (and I say that as a great fan of him)

After early exits in Miami and Monte Carlo I wonder why Zverev has come good in Madrid? Altitude and conditions??
