Madrid Masters Prediction League! (Fourth in Series) Try it if u haven't already

the tourney is not in toronto this year as the men are in montreal to play the rogers masters.

JayChu, I know it's in Montreal. Rafa's still defending a 1000 points there.
-------------------
Thankfully, the OoP is out now. I have to leave to take a bus full of brats on a field trip in two hours and I thought I would miss out on day one's predictions.

SUNDAY'S MATCHES
  • Tommy ROBREDO vs Nicolas KIEFER Robredo in 2
  • Igor KUNITSYN vs Juan Carlos FERRERO Ferrero in 3
  • Sam QUERREY vs Radek STEPANEK Stepanek in 3
(I believe the rest are qualies.)

Agreed. I think Nole wins this tournament as he is the second best on clay.
He may be the second best on clay but he's playing his 3rd tournament in a row this week, so he won't want to overdo it either.
Madrid's winner could be a complete surprise!

Tommy ROBREDO vs Nicolas KIEFER Robredo in 2
Igor KUNITSYN vs Juan Carlos FERRERO Ferrero in 2
Sam QUERREY vs Radek STEPANEK Querrey in 3

guys the Haas match is a quali.

Robredo vs Kiefer :: Robredo in 2
Kunitsyn vs Ferrero :: Ferrero in 3
Querrey vs Stepanek :: Radek in 2

So everyone thinks Nadal is gonna win the 4 events leading to RG including 3 masters?
Guys, that's impossible, I don't think it's ever been done...

True, but I seriously can't pick any other player to win over Nadal.

Winner: Nadal
RU: Del Potro

(Hoping Roddick manages to make a run and then beats fed with his consistency, would be funny if Roddick wins their only clay meeting LOLZ!)

Thanks. I blame the brats. They terrify me into thinking Haas is doing much better than he really is. :) Besides, what would a Sunday line up of picks be without some messups? It's tradition.

*fingers crossed*

blaming the brats is always a safe option xD

I'm glad there's only 3 main draw matches on, I definitely can't spend tomorrow watching tennis >< In fact I shall endeavor not to even look at anything till predictions time tomorrow night, must do more work >_<

True, but I seriously can't pick any other player to win over Nadal.

pretty much, a Rafa who's won 3 back to back tournies and who might be tired is still at least as good a bet as anyone else in the field xD

IMPORTANT NOTICE

If you have not yet picked your tournament winner and runner-up do so ASAP. You cannot do this after the first game.

T.ROBREDO vs N.KIEFER - Robredo: 2-1
I.KUNITSYN vs J.C.FERRERO - Ferrero: 2-0
S.QUERREY vs Radek S.Stepanek - Stepanek: 2-0

[/B]

like roger, maybe, hopefully, finally!
I don't know. To tell you the truth I have a hard time seeing him as a main contender anymore. He's gonna have to score a win against either Djoko, Murray or Nadal to convince me he still is. I mean how long has it been since he beat any of them? Since USO 2008? It's not easy to bet on a Fed win at the moment.

alrighty here goes nothing

Winner: Rafael Nadal
Runner up: Roger Federer

Yeah, that's what I think. Federer's draw looks pretty easy, since the tournament is played on clay. Blake, Roddick and Murray are some of the top seeds in his half and they are all terrible on clay. Even if Roger chokes he should still reach the finals.

I think he would beat Murray if they met this tournament. Also I think in 5 setters/GS he has a huge edge over Djokovic and Murray.

T.ROBREDO vs N.KIEFER - Robredo: 2-0
I.KUNITSYN vs J.C.FERRERO - Ferrero: 2-0
S.QUERREY vs Radek S.Stepanek - Querry: 2-1

Nadal wins over Federer.

I would tend to agree about 5 setters although his game has deteriorated somewhat since AO and I have no way to know if it's just a motivation problem or if there is more to it. In the Madrid tournament, I will need to see it to believe it (that he can beat Murray). It's been a long time since he has been in the final of a master (Hamburg 2008), so there is definitely a question mark for me regarding his chances.

T.ROBREDO vs N.KIEFER - Robredo: 2-0

# Sam QUERREY vs Radek STEPANEK Stepanek 2-0

Winner: Rafael Nadal

There are no rules for what happens in the case of a retirement.

the rule could be:
  1. all bets are canceled(0 points for everyone) for that match like it is for some betting agencies, or
  2. The winner is still determined(2 points) but the sets are undetermined due to the retirement(since players have been known to make comebacks before)

In the case of this last retirement it may be reasonable if you just give the 5 points to whoever picked the winner in 2 sets, but then apply the new 'retirement rules' for any future retirements.

We are in @ for the 4th in the series, this being the 2009 Rome Master’s Series event :D

Points Scoring Rules: (MUST READ)
If you predict the correct winner but the wrong score in sets, you'll get two points. However, if you also nail the score line in sets, (ie, Nadal beats Murray 2 set to love) you’ll get five points. Each predictor can pick the winner and runner up of the tournament (approximately a day before the FIRST ROUND MATCH)

Come the conclusion of the tournament – ten points will be given to each predictor that predicts BOTH the correct winner and runner up and five points for the one or the other.

If you grasp a sudden urge to change one or more predictions that you may already have posted, please make a new post, so I am aware of the time it was posted and can validate that the prediction was made before the respective match / matches. (Editing posts makes matters complicated)
