It’s almost unbelievable anyone would mention Alcaraz in the same breath as Fed, even on clay

It's really not unbelievable that anyone would mention Alcaraz in the same breath with anyone else in terms of ability and dedication early on in his career. This kid is an absolutely monster talent. Absurdly great movement, incredible power, great touch and a good head on his shoulders and with almost nothing resembling a real weakness.

Let's punish the trolls who were doubting Carlito. Very immature. Yeah I also think Carlito is favorite for rg. But Novak and Rafa are second and third favorites.

I was out earlier today - so super happy with today's result! Looking forward to watching the match! 6-1, 6-2 is my kind of score where my Carlos is concerned!!!!! (: (: (: (: (: (: (: (:

Their last year's meeting on this same court in Madrid was basically the same dominant performance from Alcaraz.
Zverev was wiped off the court like an amateur.
But then Zverev went to a whole other level at RG.

Interesting thing to note; They had record attendance for Monte Carlo this year even without Nadal and Federer. It shows that the big 3 aren't pivotal to the sport's success. People move on just as quickly and embrace new young players. Interested to see what the attendance is for Madrid. Fans are big into Alcaraz it seems.

Good Federer fans must move on now. This met gala stuff is not enough as a tennis fan. Where are the matches for Federer. On no, he is retired

Carlitos absolutely at same level of talent as Federer. As for the same level of results that's still to be seen.

He lost a clay final. To Norrie. I'm not blind to Alcaraz's talent but he's not Big 3 scary and never will be. There are players talking about saying he's some mythical returner but these players are not exactly swimming in talent themselves so ofcourse they would say that, Like I saw someone mention a Dan Evan's comment on him.

If in 5 years and he's swept 10+ slams then I'll gladly hang my head in defeat and accept that I was wrong but I really really don't see it yet.
He was injured vs Norrie. He breaks serve 41 % of the time on clay pre Z this year. Those are Rafa like numbers

His success is dependent on how well Sinner develops his serve. If Sinner had even gotten 10% more serves in that QF match they had last year, I can guarantee you he would’ve been slam less and Sinner instead would’ve lifted the trophy.
And again you turn a match thread into a Sinner-Alca US Open debate.....

I picked Alcaraz but gave Z a decent chance provided his serve was on fire and he played super aggressive.
All joking aside (and a serious question): when was the last time Zverev's serve was on fire? It would have to be 2020. I've never seen him play super aggressive, that's Becker/Edberg/Mac style. Zverev plants himself on the baseline and when he ventures forward, it's to shake hands or bury a volley into the net. It's impossible to be super aggressive when you never follow your serve to the net and volley about as well as a blind pensioner. Of course, I am extremely biased, being ABZ to the core. :happydevil:

I may remember it wrong, but I remember him not being a pusher in their RG match last year. Don't mean he should rush the net with those horrible hands of his.
Last time his serve was on fire? I did say once in a blue moon, but how about vs Djoko at the 2021 Olympics?
(I intentionally miss most Z matches so there might be some in between)

People tend to forget that even Federer had to get his creativity/shot selection under control first, it took him quite a while to sort things out. This was the reason he was a relative late bloomer. He was nowhere near the level of Carlitos at just 19 years of age.

You waited for almost a year to post this. Impressive.

I wasn't in this forum for almost a year, so how is this impressive? Can we get back to tennis talk please instead of snarky remarks? One of the reasons I wasn't here for so long in the first place.

Zvev was scared, Carlitos was all over him. His body language spoke clearly. When looking over the net, he would bend his eyes down in sign of submission. He did try, but that second game was his grave.
Zverev’s 2022 season could’ve been one of the biggest what ifs in tennis. Don’t think he would’ve won RG even if he was in a position to serve out a match against Nadal, don’t see him doing it. Probably last years USO Could’ve been a great chance. If Sinner was able to generate a Mp with poor serving, I’m sure Zverev would’ve beaten Raz

just need to monitor the injuries. he is pretty injury prone, so i will limit the natural slam count to 10 slams at this stage.

10 slams - Borg level, - we are still looking at an all time great here.

He's on big 3 trajectory- level overall. He's 19 and has a very developed ground game with no weaknesses. On the ground definitely, off both wings, just the serve is a bit subpar but if you look at Rafa he's big 3 with a mediocre serve, so the serve is less relevant in modern tennis surfaces which are fairly slow.

Djokovic got lucky in the AO - alcaraz was injured, but now he is injured, rest of the year will depend on alcaraz fitness

Height wise- he's agassi height and agassi had an excellent, world class, base line game(no big serve due to height) and got to 8 slams in a tougher era with a lot of big servers/hitters and very fast courts. Despite being a bit shorter than the big 3, wont hinder his prospects at all.

He was clearly injured against Norrie. He is like 25-2 this season, that's absurdly good.
luckily his injuries have been minor/niggles. at this stage of development, 19, is still not a concern.

if he can sort out his injury issues permanent fix like djokovic did in 2011, or just develops normally to no injury state, he will become the greatest tennis player ever. There are 60 slams up for grabs the next 15 years, and he doesnt have any equivalent competition for any of those years. the big 3 had equivalent competition, hence could only get to 22 GS. It is conceivable he could get to atleast 20 slams if hes injury free and playing like today. Sure he will have off days like v Ruusvoori type hitter player.

It's not like it's a save thing, Alcaraz would have beaten Djokovic there but I would have liked his chances and at least this would have been a highly interesting matchup!
This year's RG for now still looks like it will be an asterisked one (for many people here), even if Carlos beats one (or maybe two) of the Big2, let alone, if he doesn't need to, to win the title.

He almost got beaten by Ruus. He has weaknesses i,e. he can have an off day. His peak level though, is trending towards big 3 prime level, which is a good sign for Alcaraz fans.

"Almost got beaten" is a bit of a stretch, I'd say. It's still one thing to challenge him for a set and a few games, because a player finds his very best tennis - and another thing to then maintain that level, keep your focus and don't loose believe, if Alcaraz immediately punishes you, if your level just dips for a moment. He's just one of those players who is resilient til the end, can come up with his best tennis in important moments and he has that kind of extra gear, if he needs to.
I still believe that a handful of players will come up with solutions to challenge him. Especially on faster courts.

Everybody can have an off day, the thing is that this guy has only lost 2 matches this season and had phisical problems in both, ruud almost beat him? When did i miss that?

He mean Ruusuvuori, not Ruud

Oh ok, he should check the list of players who beat fed, djoko or nadal when they were 19, now we talking like if he wasnt allowed to lose a set in order to have any credibility, for gods shake, the "almost lose" "he was lucky" always seem to me that is said by people who dont really compete in tennis
