Maestronians, would you like to answer for the OP?
I like @MichaelNadal . Its ok to gloat a little when you do it for the fun, AND when you can handle it when it backfires:).

As for some of the other gloating Bullzillions around here, this tasted so good! In the end, there is some justice in the world;). If Nadal won this one, the forum would have turned into an unbearable place.

He's my bro here. I know he's smiling. :)

Bullzillions...yeah they had it coming I guess, decent Nadal fans though, they are class acts.

So this will be the thread where I air my feelings :p
Honestly im in awe of Fed, man. He took it to Nadal today in a way I didn't know he still had in him. Hoping he wins the title. No matter what happens with the big 3 from now on, Fed sealed his GOAT status with me today. What a tennis player. Seriously! Congrats to all my fav maestronians :D Rafa will still win one more non clay slam before he's done, and im going to troll you like never before when he does, but till then, I bow to you :) God has done too much in my life this year for my benefit for me to be upset about tennis. Love you all #SavageJesus

You're a good egg. Permission to use the word epic on Sunday if Fed pulls it off? ;)

I told you Fed has become the mightiest on the greatest court.....

We'll see what happens Sunday. Djokovic isn't going to give it to him that easy, this is the closest he will get to that record and he is moving beautifully out there.

Do you think Novak stands a chance against MAGISTERIAL MAESTRO?

Yes. Djokovic is the better player between them right now on grass at this stage in their careers.
I don't know, Djokovic needed five sets to beat Nadal, Federer has done it in four sets. And Nadal is much tougher matchups for Federer. In the past if Fed was good enough to beat Nadal he always won the tournament. And Djokovic is no longer peak. So, there you go.

Djokovic is far superior returner than Nadal, he will return aggressively into Federer's feet and will shrink the court on his side, forcing Federer to go for more and hit one more shot.

Yea but he has to up the ante. That second set from him was not pretty and if he does that against Federer, he will make him pay.

I think Nadal played better in the SF last year and Djokovic also wasn't firing on all cylinders, besides the serve. To me that's why the match was much closer.

I don't think it was the return what hurt Fed. It was his movement and fitness, which is now better than in 2015. It was also mental, Fed wasn't as clutch. Plus it was also Fed not taking the ball as early and his backhand wasn't as aggressive, plus his net approaches weren't as smart, so now you can't just push Fed out of position. Plus, Djokovic isn't like 2015, he couldn't even boss Thiem from the baseline, so he will have much harder time to do that to Federer. And Fed wasn't tested before the final and was peaking way too early before.

But, look, if Nole beats him, no excuses, it will be impressive win because I think Fed is playing at a very high level, better than in 2015 and Nole is not as good as in 2015.

Do you think it looked like he played better because Novak deliberately (that's my impression anyway) chose to rely on his defense and return and let Nadal to be the aggressor, because he was so confident his defense and a serve/return combo will be enough, or because Rafa's level was objectively higher compared to today?

Nadal said in a post match interview that he felt rushed today as Federer played very fast and hit everything very early, so he couldn't play his best game.

I just remember Nadal being crazy aggressive and just not letting Djokovic breathe in the rallies. It was like Djokovic had no choice but to rely on his serve because at that point in time, his ground game wasn't potent enough to go toe to toe with that aggressive Rafa off the ground. Also, Rafa just killed him with body serve after body serve so his returning wasn't helping him a whole lot either.

Yea it looked like that to me as well. Nadal kept trying to push Federer back in the rallies and he just was not allowing it. Federer was brilliant from the baseline today and his backhand was spectacular. Of course, he served excellent as well.

To me, it looked like Novak entered the match with an attitude which says "you know what? I'm going to employ a defensive strategy as I'm totally confident I could match your aggression and beat you, no matter how offensive you are", and of course his serve was very efficient. But, yeah, it could be that his ground game was still not at the level required to dominate rallies with it so he chose a safer approach.

Interesting match-ups, anyhow.

Maybe you are right and I do think he served better last year than this year so far. He has served well this year but last year he was serving a higher percentage and getting more free points. Maybe he did try to counter Nadal with a defensive strategy but it just felt like Nadal didn't give him a lot of time, and he was still not completely back to full power yet.

Agreed.

Great response! No problem with banta and good humoured trolling if you face the music when your guy loses.

Feel free to go for us Maestronians and show no mercy if Nadal tears it up at flushing meadows.

As a maestronian, honestly, I feel great now.

You should, and what did you eat? ;)
Im going to have wings tomorrow still lol, doubt I will watch the final Sunday, simply bc my interest is gone (and I have epic things to watch that are more pressing of course) but hoping Fed snags it :p

Looks like we will always be on opposing sides my brother....so be it.

I remember when MichaelNadal liked Djokovic a lot... seems like a long time ago now, but who knows, in the last moments of his career maybe he will become a fan again. It's funny how things can change and I have a feeling a lot of posters here will soften to all the big 3 when their time is drawing near

Lol yeah I joined in about April 2011 I think but been a lurker here from some point in 2010. I dont even recall MN hating Nole for a good part of 2011, might have been AO 2012 that really did it?
