Mains move too much - any suggestions?

I would like to use a full set of Luxilon BB Alu rough in my K95 (16x18). The problem is, my mains move too much when I do that.

So instead, I use a hybrid of BB and Babolat Tonic. This is quite an expensive hybrid though and I don't like it more or less than full Luxilon. I have the feeling that the hybrid with natural gut makes the racket even more powerful than a full set of Luxlion. (By the way, is that so or am I just imagining it? Would full Luxilon be more or less powerfull?)

So, what can I do? How do I get the strings to hardly move at all without increasing the tension (mains: 55-58lbs, crosses: 56-60lbs - depending on surface) too much?

I have the Lux BBA Touch Hybrid in my AG100, and it hasn't budged one iota.

Big Banger Ace mains with Supersense 16 crosses. Maybe you would like that?

To the last three users:

- as I said, I don't want to increase the tension but string savers could be a good idea

- the mains in a full alu rough set move a lot more than others, so much that I have less control

- it's even worse when the strings are new

- I don't want another hybrid. Either full alu rough or mixed with tonic

I didn't have this problem at all when I used the 18x20 version of this racket, but I just don't play as well with a dense pattern as I do with an open one ;)

^^^^ elastocross string savers. it will decrease, if not stop, string movement
When I used string savers, it definately prevented my strings from moving, at least for a little bit. Then when they started moving again I would just add more. They would also create a firmer stringbed until the string lost more tension, but then I'd just add more. Be careful of putting too many on though, bc eventually it takes all the feel out of the stringbed and hurts your arm.

I've never used string savers. Can you just put these things on your strings like a clip? I will give it a try for sure...

But is there really no other way? I used full alu rough in my PS85s before and it hardly moved at all

I always string my crosses 2-4 lbs tighter, seems to really reduce the string movement.

Usually sting the mains +-55 and the crosses from 57-59. Significantly reduces string movement in both mains and crosses. Plus provides a more constant string bed tension.
Alright, thanks. So I'll try string savers and increased tension on the crosses to see which method works better for me. For safety I will keep the other rackets strung with the alu/tonic hybrid.

Thanks everyone :)

The crosses, not the mains?
You mean you don't know about stringing the crosses tighter?

If you use poly in a hybrid, you string the poly 5-10% lower. If the poly is the mains, then string the crosses 5-10% higher. On your hybrid: BB and Babolat Tonic--try BB at 56-57 and the Legend at 60-61

And no, it will not deform the head.

Thanks Hoodjem, I didn't know that. When hybriding, for instance SPPP and Gosen OG sheep, I usually string mains and crosses at the same tension. I will give your suggestion a try.

I've got that exact same combo (SPPP and Gosen OG sheep) in one of my racquets. I think it is strung at 57/61. Feels very good indeed.

The SPPP is soft, so it volleys really well. I use it when I seem to be over-hitting (for some reason) with my present favorite: CF and Forten Sweet (at 58/62).

If mounted correctly, I don't see how crosses would deform unless you make the difference a lot and then it will elongate.

Actually, I personally add 2 lbs onto crosses to make sure there is no shortening.

strange, I was thinking of doing that exact same hybrid :). SPPP and Gosen OG Sheep 56/61.

is it just me, or does it not even make sense that full alu rough moves more than a hybrid with rough mains vs crosses?

it makes no sense to me. but yea, you'd get more power with the hybrid.

I know about that. My crosses are always a bit tighter (not 4-5lbs though, more like 2lbs), but the mains move a lot nevertheless. Besides, I don't string rackets myself. Actually, I haven't strung a single racket in almost 20 years of tennis...

I want less power (and less movement) in the strings, that's why I want to use full alu instead of gut in the crosses. I like the alu rough and I hope/think it will reduce power a bit.

And yes, it's weird that full alu moves a lot. That's why I came here to ask ;)
