making a stencil

What kind of good material is there to make a stencil; I mean, stuff lying around the house that can be deployed to this end.

Final stencil should be on plastic sheet. I am thinking about those 8.5x11 plastic envelops. How you design and get the stencil onto the plastic sheet is up to you. Personally, I do not stencil because the operation is messy. The application of ink is extremely messy. 3¢

I haven't stenciled a racket in years. Pretty sure all my ink has dried up by now. Some people just cut them out on paper and laminated it, then cut out the stencil on the plastic. It doesn't necessarily have to be on plastic either (it just last longer). Usually, you'll only use it a few times any way.
wouldn't do this as the ink will go into the paper that is exposed once you cut the design out and split the lamination and it'll turn into a mess pretty soon.

Just buy plastic binding cover sheets. You can buy different thicknesses. Draw on with a sharper and cut out with a craft knife. They last forever.

Of if it's a manufacturers stencil you want, try asking them. I've had a few freebies that way.

Good point! I have done the lamination method however they do split like you said. My solution is to relaminate them but I suspect it will probably destroy my laminator eventually (its a very cheap one).

The last time I made one, I used the cover from a binder; sturdy but soft plastic. But I ruined a good binder.

Exactly what I was thinking,, cheap plastic 1" binders are easy to get and plastic is thick enough for this job..

I know Volkl has or had a downloadable logo if you wanted to make one. But, yeah, simple plastic sheets would be an effective and cheap marketing tool.

Why bother making them as they are cheap as you can purchase them from TW for $4-$5 per stencil. If you are going to provide the service, get what you need as it is cheap enough. That said, I normally do not stencil, as very few ask for it.

only ones I have ever had ask are pro players, and most of them travel with a stencil and do their own.

I have had no issues printing on paper, cuting the image out, and then taking the paper to Kinko's and have them laminate it. I then recut out the image. We do it for my son's high school team. They have fun with their mascot

I agree you can just get from the manufacturer but if it is as I suspect I believe he is thinking of something else.

We have made the stencils for my son's high school team with their mascot. The kids have fun with it.

I make my own because I like to make older ones that you can't buy anymore, like the old Yonex symbol as my avatar.

Also, if you use say white ink on a stencil that has red ink residue on it, you will end up with a pink stencil... that takes several stencils worth of application to get the white out of the applicator. I didn't want to pay $10 for three stencils for each colour so I started making them.

It appears that one can order a custom stencil made based on your sketch from Racquet Art for only $12.95 plus shipping. No need to make them yourself. They also sell inks in fancy colors. Monogram stencils (one or two letters) appear to be $9.95 each.

Firstly, I'd suggest finding an image you like. Silhouettes or simple images will work best.

Next, you can draw it on paper by hand, or in software like photoshop.

Once I print it out and get the sizing just how I want it, I buy a plastic semi-transparent folder from an office store.

I then use that to carefully trace out the image on the plastic, and cutting it out. You'll also want to be sure that the plastic area surrounding the logo fits easily on your racquet string bed.

Please feel free to share what you come up with!

I would happily pay for stencils. However, I don't feel that I am worthy enough to wield any brand logo.

That's why I don't stencil my strings.o_O

Not that stencil serves any purpose, but for the fun of it, you can stencil your own initials or silhouette of your dog or cat.

I, too, would avoid brand name logos because outside of pro tournament where players have sponsorship from racquet manufacturers, stencil of Wilson or Head or whatever usually very strongly suggests that you bought this racquet factory-strung with garbage strings somewhere at Costco or Big 5 and never cared to restring it.

I actually thought about putting my initial, letter "A", on the racquet for the kick of it, in hope that someone asks "what does that mean???", or better yet, "where did you manage to find a racquet with your initial???"

A while back I looked into stenciling the raket,, with my own "fun logo",, but realized It was more trouble than Its worth,, messi, it also stains the ball. time consuming trying to keep paint fresh,,,
i rather try more string combinations...
but, not hating if you like to stencil your stuff.. (i had "The", chuck norris fist, once), :)

How about stencilling the face of your favourite player on your string bed.

With the power of Roger on your strings you will be invincible ... except when you are playing Rafa, Novak or John Millman!
