Many upsets already - do you like it or not?

So I went to bed and woke up with Barty's gone and Zverev almost gone (who knows what would have happened without the injury).
Not to mention Osaka and Tsisipas out. Shapo and Rublev as well.
Unpredictability is great but having said that.. When the big names are gone some excitement is gone. It sounds contradictory but suddenly QF and semis might be less epic less hyped up and random. I can imagine fewer tickets sold. I (we?) thrive on the favourites, the hate, the love.
Also who seems to be in the best form now?

Love your ideas, but for me it gives the lie to old TTW favourite - IT'S ALL RIGGED !
Against or favours [add in the usual fan Bouy crush] likely Fedalovicury, or DimiNisihaonic, or MedZodlev etc etc etc.
Or the sad sack player TTW is hating on at the moment. Used to be Zod now it's Tstits etc etc etc.

Upsets is good ! :) Makes utter fools of the TTW "Djokovic is lock for the Olympics ( and everything else )"
twit merchants look as stupid as they are.

Was very common in the 90s when you only had 16 seeds. The thing now is all the jokes for Lost-Gen and outside Big5 players they were more consistent for top 20 guys.

Now the margin between 10-50 is pretty small so there's more upsets coming and Top 10 are inconsistent themselves outside the last Big5 member Novak.

Murray should absolutely stick around lol.

Yes, absolutely. People sometimes forget matches actually have to be played and that players have better and worse days, like anyone else. Nothing is "a lock" and that makes it all the more enjoyable to watch. Watched Shapo--Harris from the sixth row last night and it was absolutely thrilling to see this guy step up and play a great match, even though I'd been pulling for Shapo.

Must have been disgusting to watch Shapovalov play. Error after error after error. Professional?

Came away thinking he just isn't that good. OHBH a little erratic and not very penetrating, average forehand that he shanks quite a lot, bricked some volleys into the net, some ill-timed and ill-executed drop shot attempts, looked like a guy who would lose to many of the up-and-comers in the game currently

Thank you. I feel like not a proper tennis fan because I simply don't know too many players outside top 10/20 who won against the favourites.
The predicted quarterfinals were wrong. They always are. I don't know if I remember correctly but Thiem last year had a good run and only choked at the final. I miss him!

The atp and wta are the same now. How can we say anyone is great when literal miss hits are what separate these players apart. 5 set matches with no one in a league of their own. And people are saying they're entertained. In that case, you'd enjoy watching juniors play. Or myself.

I laughed! There is definitely a true to that. I'd also put myself on that list.
Sampras-Bruguera 1993 - Zverev would have won but he struggled so he's not safe. Novak is Novak a part of the big 3. Also Schwartzman lost so.. how many qualifiers can one have?

Faulty memory. Thiem won USO when Zverev choked the final away.

Djokovic, Zverev, Berrettini, Sinner, Opelka, Medvedev, FAA and Alcaraz are still there to add some star power to the 2nd week - the top of the draw is still loaded while Medvedev might have an easy path to the final in the bottom half. I’ve enjoyed the other upsets and many 5-setters.

I would thoroughly enjoy it if Djokovic plays Zverev or Sinner and Medvedev plays FAA or Alcaraz in the semifinals. If other players like Brooksby, Opelka, Harris, Otte or Zandschulp make it to the semis, it will be disappointing.

I feel like it's nice to see the underdogs but they win and then underperform next. So I'm torn!

I liked Van Zan, b/c Alcatraz and Leylha Fernardez are established players imho. Love them though!

Yea on the women's side it's been like that. Aside from Tsitsipas going out I'm not really surprised

I mean, yeah but how many were true upsets on the mens?

Alcaraz beating Tsitsipas and??? Rublev & Shap losing early wasn't that shocking with their inconsistencies.
