Mardy Fish or Andy Roddick who's the bigger jack?

Inner Game

Semi-Pro
I imagine everyone has seen Mardy's and Andy's last matches at the Aussie Open. Their on court actions were pathetic especially Mardy Fish. At least Andy went down fighting with a few Connor's like antics. But Mardy Fish, lets look at why he lost that match was it because of 1 bad call? Hardy! If Mardy spent as much time in the gym as he does whining and complaining about calls he might have enough staying power to win a match against a top player. His fitness level is the worse of any pro on the tour. When he started to tank his match I started channel surfing and caught Mardy playing a pro-am in Naples and saw a butterball local pro named Jesse Witten hand Fish his butt. LOL
Fish is quickly becoming a bottom feeder...Maybe he should join the woman's tour at least his fitness level would put him in the middle of the pack there.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

Ummm, I have a fairly low opinion of Mardy's tennis, but I will give him credit for two things: bringing back Kelly Jones (and I hope Kelly made him beg) and hiring a personal fitness trainer. He has lost weight since the end of last season, but I don't know if he will ever be the player he was when he made the Cincy final back in 2003 (it was 2003, right?).

Comparing the two matches, Mardy was the worst. Andy behaved poorly, and he didn't play well for significant parts of the match, but he tried to stay in it until the end.

i gotta disagree...andy played as good as he could play in that match and was treeing for much of it. he had something like 42 aces which is a record for him i think, served 72% firsts, and had something like 80 winners and only 25UE's (or so)...and still lost.

i think both of these guys were an embarassment to american tennis in their matches. spoiled children they are. Fish got a bad deal with the warning, but to hang on to that like that especially when it didnt even cost him a point was really immature. roddick was just being a jerk insulting the chair ump like that..he should publically apologize, but fat chance of that ever happening

I think PMac had the understatement of the year saying that 'Roddick was a "little" upset". You couldn't put up a bigger display of whining and crying like a stuck up b1tch like Andy Boy did. But he's PMac's lunch ticket in the Davis Cup so he can't bust Andy's balls.

In the Roddick - Kohlschreiber match, there was a player with class, and a player with no class.
All who watched it know which player was which.

It was pathetic.
Sadly, it was also very typical and predictable.

In the current modern day game, it seems the focused players are the winners and those struggling to make it or hold on are whiners

Federer doesn't whine, he's focused.

Nadal doesn't whine either, he's got too many rituals to get through to spare time whining

Exactly. It would look bad for him to, god forbid, "critisize" his golden Davis Cup player. That's why PMcEnroe is one of the most biased commentators in this Australian.

Andy is the bigger jerk simply because he has high standars (he is top 10 after all) and his behavior made him look like a junior just starting out.

Both were jerks, but at least Roddick didn't quit like Fish did. Immediately after Fish started barking at the Umpire, his game fell apart and never came back. Roddick actually played better after he started barking.

I love their attitudes, tennis would be boring with stuck up players trying to be class and stuff. Imagine there being only Davydenkos, Federers and some other guys, i wouldn't bother watching them. Safin's attitude should also be discussed in there too.

Roddick! At least Fish didn't go off on someone else like Roddick. I've always liked Roddick, but I'm getting tired of his wussy play and unfunny outbursts. I mean, come on, if you are gonna be an ass hole like that atleast be funny.

Thats not the question though is it? Nobody said it wasn't entertaining to watch men behaving badly. I presume a 'jack' is an a$$hole, and for anyone who doubted it, they proved it yet again. I think Mardy is worse, by a nose. I mean who is this guy anyway?
Funny you bring up Safin because he manages to behave badly and yet maintains an element of class and dignity, perhaps through charisma, but Roddick just comes across like some whining spoiled brat. I thought it was ironic during his match that he asked the German fans to "show some class"!!?!

why imagine if we can watch the 2nd week of the AO? :P

i suppose, once you're labeled a "jack-*ss" it's pretty irrelevant whether you're a bigger jack-*ss than the jack-*ss standing next to you.

instead of ranting about spoiled athletes (like that's a new phenomenon) . . . i will say this. in keeping with the "why i love tennis" theme of another thread, i think tennis players should make more use of their changeovers. i mean, in lots of sports, you don't really have time to look around and check out the atmosphere (unless you're on the bench, and if you are, you're not really a part of the atmosphere, are you?)

tennis pros are blessed. they get to sit down every couple of games and just . . . well, sit. instead of spending that valuable time chugging gatorade or yelling at ball kids for fresh towels, giving the chair ump the evil eye, or thinking up mystery ailments (so you can call a timeout once you go down a break) . . . you should look around the stadium, check out the scene: tons of people, who paid hard-earned cash to watch a little yellow ball whiz back and forth across a net . . . cheering, chanting, ooohing, aahhing, sweating and fretting over their favorite players . . .

think about THAT while your *ss is sitting in a comfy chair on a changeover . . . even for just ONE changeover a match . . . and then say to yourself, "this . . . is my job." pause and reflect about all the thankless, low-paying jobs out there . . . in the real world. and maybe you won't gain a greater appreciation for what you do for a living. maybe you'll think twice next time you want to argue with the ump and accuse him of being a second-grade dropout . . . or tanking a match cos you didn't get a call.

or . . . maybe not.

Fish.

Anyone remember the fans he hired at the US Open to follow him around and paint their face to get on TV and promote Fish? That was sad.

thats a very mature statement. i guess if someone has class and is a gentleman then that means they are stuck up? you haven't seen stuck up until you meet serena williams and andy roddick in person. class and snobbiness have nothing to do with each other.

I think its sometimes good to see players explode and ramble and whine brings some fire into the game. Youhzny and Davydenko match was ... pretty darn quiet if you know what I mean. ALthough Davydenko is my favorite player, he does need some fire in his eyes and body. So having some of those b1tchy as some might call it attitude twoards the chair and during the game is essential
