She's above average at best. Great legs and ok looking face. She's not really THAT flat. I've seen flatter (the other 85% of the WTA) But shes kinda too massive for my taste. I've seen her up close, she doesn't look that bad in my opinion.

She is clearly hot. She has a nice face and she is in incredible shape. If you saw her at the beach, and didn’t know who she was, you would certainly say she is, at the very least, above average.
We expect female celebrities to be really hot, and when one isn’t, we unfairly call her ugly. We place higher standards on them than we do on, say, our friends.
For example, so many of my friends called Brittney Spears ugly after she gained 15 pounds, yet called their female friends, who were heavier than Brittney, hot.
If Sharapova was not famous, and just an ordinary girl, everyone would consider her to be hot, but, because she is a celebrity, people are much more critical.

As a straight red-blooded male, in real-life terms, she really is hot and sexy. No argument.

I think it's rather the opposite. Experienced and older men realize Sharapova is way above average, whereas these teenage no-nothings live in a fantasy world populated with imaginary Victoria's Secret models.

If you think she's above average, are you sure you want to cast your vote for average? Think of what an average woman looks like in the real world, and then think about Sharapova looks like.

Yes, I recall your explanation. I just want you to think this one over a bit and ask yourself some tough questions on this one. Remember, your vote will remain for all to see for all time. But more importantly, in the end, you will have to answer to yourself most of all.

turlington is one of the world's great beauties, this is an outrageous comparison. a little older now, but still . . . ridiculous.
a buddy of mine was on a shoot with a crew who do a ton of fashion work. he asked somebody, the DP, make-up girl, whoever, who the one person is that they shoot, that requires the least work to get camera ready? instantaneous response was turlington. they said she walks in, and they're like, um, here's some lipstick . . . whatever, you're good to go.
Okay, we'll give Turlington a racquet and let her wear some makeup and see if that helps....

I'm sayin' just above average for her age, because of the bad skin. But from a distance, I do agree with the concensus.
Though when she plays tennis, she drops a few notches in my opinion, on account of her heinous game and screeching. Meanwhile, more pedestran types like Juice-teen Heinous, Roberta Vinci, Emilie Loit, Amelie Mauresmo and Francesca Schiavone go up a few notches due to their stylish and attractive way of playing the ball and the court. Kimmy C and Caroline Wozniacki get personality points.
I wonder if it works that way with us men. Like, does an average-looking guy like Nalbandian climb a notch or two because his game is fluid? Does a Jan Michael Gambill drop a few notches because of the two handedness and the ungainly movement? Does a Roger or a Rafa climb a notch or two because he represents the game so well?
Not really mine to comment on (as a straight dude), but I wonder if/how women spearate looks from tennis aesthetic.
I dispute that it works that way with women. There ain't nothing Henin can do on the court that's going to make me find her physically attractive, and nothing that Sharapova can do that makes her less so. I think things like personality and style are beyond the scope of our inquiry here.

There is no country where Maria would not be considered well above average in looks. While she has at times had problems with acne, which is oddly common on the WTA, she is very pretty in person.
The only possible issue is that she is very big. While she is fit and very attractive, she is bigger than 80% of the guys you meet. Some may have issues along the lines of the "man hands" episode of Seinfeld.
