Will always remember him for the Wimby 14 R1 against Nadal though. After the 2 terrible losses in a row at Wimbledon for Nadal, the world was watching to see how Nadal would do..... then Martin won the first set, TTW was pretty much crashing like it's happening again!!! 8-B

Sad day. Always saw him on the draws and wondered how he'd do. He was able to make runs of form, but also able to lose for incredible stretches of time.

Little bit sad to retire and then have folks on a tennis forum call you a nobody.

Anyway, he’s had a decent career. Peaked in the top 30, six tournament wins, reeled off a couple of nice wins including one against Nadal and another against Thiem. Wish him well.

On a side note, it seems a little odd to see 31-year-olds retiring these days, what with Nadal and Djokovic still being at or near the top at their age. Goes to show that kind of longevity is quite a rare gift.

I’m sad about this. He was one of my favourite players to watch. Such a great game when on. I remember when he showed promise reaching the USO ‘12 R4 and how exciting his forehand was. Then we had him often challenging the top seeds in big matches. Always interesting to see who he drew. Got some nice upsets, too. The 500 runs now and then. He was riddled with injuries though. Good luck to the guy! Will miss him.

One of the hardest hitting lefties bidding goodbye to the tour.
I remember his dramatic comeback from 3-5 down in set 2 Against nole in miami 2015, watching that match live.

Good old Klizan. I swear I've seem him play an inordinate amount of times. At least ten or eleven times. Not a bad guy. Always seemed a little down on himself.

I remember when Thiem beat him to take his first indoor title back in St. Petersburg 2018. I actually didn't think Domi would pull it off because of knowing Martin's game and the fact that he'd beaten Thiem in Kitzbühel a month and a half earlier. In any case, at 31 his time has come but I'm sure he'll be well remembered especially in Slovakia. I actually have a friend from Slovakia who's met him and says he's a nice guy, so all the best to him :)

There used to be a Slovakian person who visited this site, he/she used to post Klizan updates.

Nice person actually.

2014 Wimbledon....even I was rooting for Nadal hard in all those matches. Lost the 1st set 3 times in a row and came back with a vengeance every time. Had his chances against Kyrgios too. That whole tournament - the whole year, in fact - was Rafa desperately raging against the dying of the light.

And he was one match away from what could've been a classic between him and Raonic.

Sad and surprised to hear this. Doesn't seem that long ago since he was winning 500 titles and giving opponents all kinds of trouble especially at the hardcourt events.

Best of luck to him for whatever he plans to do next.

Lots of decent players retired this year. Troicki just announced. So, Dolgopolov (officially), Troicki, Jürgen Melzer, Leander Paes, Guillermo Garcia Lopez, and Klizan, lot of pretty decent, if not spectacular players.
