He means it's better to have two early stage rather than one advanced... Best of luck Martina, you reached the highest peak among the women in my book.I seriously hope that this was either misworded or I got it wrong.

Even before Evert’s diagnosis, Chrissie lost her younger sister Jeanne nearly three years ago to the same ovarian cancer. And before Jeanne’s death, it’s been 5 years since Jana Novotná lost her battle with cancerjust awful...first Chris, now Martina. I recalled she had breast cancer earlier and beat it. Fingers crossed. Larynx cancer is unusual for a non-smoker...did not know HPV could cause it as well. Awful all around.
Two at the same time? This doesn't sound good. At least she can afford the best treatment possible.
If it's spread, it would mean stage 4 cancer (i.e. advanced). It said in the press that Martina's throat cancer was stage 1, so that would mean early detection.I seriously hope that this was either misworded or I got it wrong.
im surprised considering her diet & fitness, esp the throat cancer.. i guess cancer is more hereditary than anything else, and if you have a propensity for it, no preventable
I cannot really read this from the initial post, but anyways, thanks for the explanation. If it's spread, it would mean stage 4 cancer (i.e. advanced). It said in the press that Martina's throat cancer was stage 1, so that would mean early detection.
"if anyone can beat cancer, it's Martina" is a lame comment suggesting that Martina can beat this because she beat most other tennis players. Wuh??? One of Sontag's points is that this is cruel in that it places an undue burden on the patient to "fight," whatever the hell that means here, when they might just want to be more passive and simply enjoy the time left to them, which some sadly characterize as feckless surrender.Since when is giving encouragement "cruel"? Since when?
Diet and fitness for throat cancer? Probably not quite the prevention you seem to think.
Not misworded. Two separate cancers would be curable. One cancer spread far away from the original organ is much worse.I seriously hope that this was either misworded or I got it wrong.
It says throat, could be esophagus. There are other causes of throat cancer besides alcohol and tobacco.the main causes of throat cancer are tobacco and alcohol.. that sounds diet/fitness related to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can have a good diet and be into fitness while still smoking and drinking.the main causes of throat cancer are tobacco and alcohol.. that sounds diet/fitness related to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks and apologies then. Not misworded. Two separate cancers would be curable. One cancer spread far away from the original organ is much worse.
Martina's statement was positive that she was going to do her best to beat these health issues. Words of encouragement are not the problem here. It is your negativity that is "lame.""if anyone can beat cancer, it's Martina" is a lame comment suggesting that Martina can beat this because she beat most other tennis players. Wuh??? Oesophagal cancer is far worse than throat cancer for survival rates, but oesophagal cancer also tends to be caused by long-term smoking and spirit alcohol use. The actor, John Thaw, was one such victim, famous for Inspector Morse. It says throat, could be esophagus. There are other causes of throat cancer besides alcohol and tobacco.

Again, those two aren't the only things that cause esophageal cancer. Long standing acid reflux disease causes distal esophageal cancer.Oesophagal cancer is far worse than throat cancer for survival rates, but oesophagal cancer also tends to be caused by long-term smoking and spirit alcohol use. Yeah it is just a comforting thing people say.
Like "Everything works out for the good."
That's what the press said about her throat cancer, which at least indicates that it isn't a case of stage 4 breast cancer spread to throat.i would count on her beating it, its stage 1 cancer
Or He has a plan.
From what I read/heard, the cancers are unrelated....just coincidental (and probably beneficial) that both were discovered via a single examI seriously hope that this was either misworded or I got it wrong.
I read that as well. Let's hope it works out that way for her. That's what the press said about her throat cancer, which at least indicates that it isn't a case of stage 4 breast cancer spread to throat.
I didn't see the press say what stage her breast cancer was. If they are both stage 1, her chances are very good.
