"Amazing he still played, bravo" - Martina Navratilova praises Rafael Nadal for playing through pain and injury for Roger Federer at Laver Cup

Martina Navratilova has praised Rafael Nadal for playing through injury and pain at the Laver Cup. He captivated tennis fans the world over by playing alongside his friend and long-time rival Roger Federer in a doubles encounter on Friday.

The Swiss maestro played his last professional match at the O2 Arena in London, where he, partnering Nadal, lost to the American pair of Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. This was Nadal's second defeat to Tiafoe in the space of a month after the Spaniard lost to the American at the US Open.

"I had no idea Rafa was struggling with his stomach muscle tear. The service toss was lower at the US open but it looked more like protecting the stomach muscle rather than still be affected by it. Amazing he still played:), bravo Rafa! And yes, he was nervous, understandably so," she tweeted."

The 36-year-old's withdrawal from the Laver Cup has now made it clear that he traveled to London with the sole intention of playing a doubles match alongside Federer. In a recent interview, the Swiss revealed that he had contacted Nadal ahead of his retirement to ascertain the chances of them pairing up for his farewell match.

When someone truly suffers from an abdominal tear it takes several weeks for that area of the body to recover.
On the other hand, whoever believes that a tennis player can win despite suffering that, a tournament of the magnitude of a Major, is living a fantasy and it is just a clown show, worthy of someone who promises "his truth" through a documentary that never was released.

It was an oblique tear not an abdominal tear, and I guarantee you Djokovic doesn't have to fake an injury to win the AO. He had only won it 8 times before that.

Nadal must be very scary to fans of Djokovic and other elites, because he won 2 Slams and reached Wimbledon SF, despite being seriously injured throughout the year, meaning there is a HUGE chance Nadal will win multiple Slams next year too (y) and be on 24 or 25 slams by the end of 2023.

You're all over the place. From faking injuries, to non-existent documentaries to "no*vax". Go off then.
If you want to believe everything your idol says is the truth, go ahead and dogmatically continue to believe that he is infallible and that everything he does is correct, free from criticism.
It's your decision, not mine.

Nadal winning more majors is only causing night (and day) terrors to Federer fanatics, who must accept that their 2 decades of false GOAT fairy tales will continue to crumble into dust. Djokovic fans have little reason to fear much, as he's still active, certainly able to win majors, and is younger than Nadal.

Good times ahead.

Rafa needs to be totally fit for the next 2 years and the sky would be the limit.

Can't Nadal have his own thread praising him instead of dragging Novak into it?

It is all Fed's fault. A champion like Laver or Serena plays a regular final match, loses, and leaves. They don't engineer their own dramatic send-off to cater to their limitless ego.

Drama queen Federer's ego forced Nadal to play through pain and be hammered by Sock and Tiafoe.

People should not put up with this.

Roger is one of the owners of the Lavar cup. So he got to maximize the profits by engineering that send off. That is just a good business decision.

Wow.

Wow man.

Just amazing.

And now that you mention it I DO remember Federer not only holding Rafa’s hand for a moment, but also putting a gun to his head to force him to play.

Luckily because of you, we at TTW know that the tears, the kind words, the years of helping each other’s charities, their families’ statements year after year, and all photos and interviews of them being kind to one another year after year - it’s all lies.

You have the secret knowledge.

Rafa was forced to play.

Poor weak victimized Rafa.

Remember how Federer and Tiger Woods were "buddies" when under the same Nike banner? And when they were not?

Much of the emotions shown by celebrities are faked. Human beings have emotions and also the ability to fake emotions, plus the ability to believe that the faked emotions are real.

Not suprised to see Rafa do this. Nothing was going to keep him from playing that final match and being part of the celebrations with Roger Federer

I am CERTAIN that when Rafa retires, there will be a certain maestro making sure he is there for the festivities.

it seems that it is all binary for you.

And that Fed is always bad.

And that all this is all fake.

And - honestly - it strikes me as a strange and a sad perspective - and - one detached the actual reality of human relationships and emotions.

Which are not binary.

For us Djokovic fan what is disappointing that he continues to miss 2 slams per year out of something that I consider plain stupid.

Djokovic had a stomach tear and still won the AO in 2021.

All he has to do is take the vaccine. As for Australia, he should never have tried to bend the rules.
The vaccine mandates have been abolished nearly everywhere now. He doesn’t need to take it and shouldn’t do it to just please governments. It proves he was right and all these countries overreacted to this nonsense. Good on Novak sticking to his guns.
