Carillo: Beer bottle caused Serena's foot injury
Ticker - Saturday, August 28, 2010

Speaking during CBS' broadcast of the New Haven final, Mary Carillo said that Serena Williams' foot injury was caused by a beer bottle falling on her foot at a bar in Munich. Some patrons became rowdy during a World Cup match happening at the time, said Carillo.

Williams took part in an exhibition against Kim Clijsters after the incident but has not played since. She appeared with a plaster on the top of her foot in subsequent days and has been wearing a walking boot since undergoing surgery for the injury.

I thought she said the cut was on the *bottom* of her foot originally; then we see her with a bandage on the top of her foot; then it's the bottom of the foot again; now it's the top of the foot

Point being, I don't really trust anything coming out of the media about this incident.

I'm sure there's a foot fault joke in here somewhere...

For the 2nd straight US Open, Serena's poor foot control costs her dearly. (I tried)

I don't usually rejoice at players' injuries, but given her conduct last year, I'm making an exception. This is quite a just result in my view. Hopefully it keeps her out deep into next year as well.

Another plus is that for those of us stuck with the American feed for the USO, we'll only have to watch over-saturated coverage of one Williams sister this time.
