Masters predictions

First slam done and we'll have 5 masters to play before the next slam. Will Djokovic overtake Nadal and who will bag these masters?

I think Novak will have 3 to 4 masters, one on clay and 2 to 3 on hc, one from the sunshine double, one US HC master and one of the fall masters. I also think Thiem might win one on clay with Nadal taking the other and possibly 1 HC master (most likely IW or Canada) Delpo and Zverev could get one, maybe Tsitsipas grabs Paris?

How's everyone else feeling about the masters series this year? Let's see how badly wrong we can get this!

IW - Zverev
Miami - Zverev
MC - Thiem
Madrid - Zverev
Rome - Thiem
Canada - Zverev
Cincy - suresh Federer
Shanghai - Medvedev
Paris - Zverev

Guarantee you at least 10 of these will be right.

That would be quite the year for Federer, winning a masters in the week of his 38th birthday and seeing neither Nadal nor Djokovic win one. In such a scenario, I'm guessing it's Zverev/Thiem at Roland Garros, Zverev/Federer at Wimbledon, and Zverev at the US Open, right?

I'd like to think Novak will stop going full throttle on them. But there's no way to know, he might just do the Sunshine double for the lols.
Thiem winning a masters? Not much hope there.
Clay masters between Djokodal. Na swing and the fall, hard to predict now.

Nadal at the French, Djokovic at Wimbledon and the USO.

Federer can console himself with Cincy.

hahahaha

seriously though might not be a bad idea to bet on Nole for every one, he could have a 5 master season

Why can't Thiem win a masters? He's beaten Nadal in masters, and if Djokovic decides to skip one or has a loss which is very possible - most seasons he's had a non Nadal loss at one of the clay masters. I can see Thiem winning Madrid with Nole and Nadal splitting MC and Rome

If Djokovic wants to get 6 more slams I have to say he cannot play all these events. He should be cutting out a third of his schedule right off the top

Then again the undeniably not human being that is Djokovic will probably play that much and still pull it off

That was my thought process.

My serious answer is this though:

IW: Djokovic
Miami: Djokovic
MC: Nadal
Madrid: Thiem
Rome: Djokovic
Canada: Zverev
Cincy: Federer
Shanghai: Delpo
Paris: Coric
WTF: Djokovic

I agree and last year he had some losses that we didn't expect. Losing in Paris and the wtf was interesting because at one time I remember Fed was so good indoors and then really lost it, and now maybe that's happening to Djokovic?

He will likely skip one of the clay masters, maybe one of the fall ones too

I also thought Thiem in Madrid and Nole and Nadal splitting MC and Rome. Would love Fed to pull off another cincy title but just not sure how his season will go from here. Paris often seems to produce a new winner so Coric could finally make a breakthrough there

The Fed prediction is a hopeful one, :) but in my own defense if he does win any Masters it will probably be that one.

It will be interesting to see how Thiem goes on clay now that Djokovic. With Djoker in top form I can't accept that Thiem is the second best clay-courter on tour. Going into the clay swing it is surely 1)Rafa 2) Djoker 3) Thiem

I agree though I think Novak might skip one of the clay masters or might get upset by someone. I see him beating Nadal in one for the title, losing in one and skipping the third

I remembered what happened against Zed last time.
Thiem has to defeat Rafa earlier and then hope for an opponent in the finals who wouldn't put up much fight. As i said i don't believe he can hold it together when the stakes are high.

I just hope Novak doesn't go full steam for the Masters. In his career they are irrelevant now. Better concentrate on slams.

Djokovic to win 3 Masters.
Nadal to win 3 Masters.
Zverev, Thiem and Tsitsipas to win 1 each.
Djokovic to win the YEC.

I tend to agree - I can certainly see Thiem, Djoker and Rafa sharing a M1000 each. Come RG I can see Djoker besting Thiem if they happen to meet.

Thiem is a bit of a gamble but yeah I think it's possible. Nadal could also win 2 masters but I feel like he might have to save a bit of energy for RG. I also agree Djokovic can beat Thiem at RG

Djokovic will need to calculate what is best for holding 1st place as long as possible, minding messages he just needs to send on clay if he wants RG.
I would like him skipping some, but IW and Miami are booked already :cautious:

I hope Novak wins Canada (or at least makes the final) and then pulls out of Cincy to rest up for the USO since he finally added the trophy to his collection last year.
