Agree with above
I literally could not watch the fed vs mutant AO final in parts, it was that nerve wracking LOL
And the fed vs kyrgios matches have been high intensity cut throat level tennis fought to the very last point

Obviously AO final. The other three slams all pretty lacklustre.

The best Bo3 match has more competition. I'll go with the Federer vs Kyrgios match in Miami.
I disagree, Nadal was kinda gassed from the 5 setter with Zverev and then Dimitrov. The level of play was higher in the semi, and it was just as dramatic. The final meant more, understandably, and fits into a bigger narrative, but it wasn't a better match.

I haven't actually seen the semi. It was the one important match I didn't see live in Melbourne this year and I didn't watch it on TV either.
I probably should download it :D

No wonder u picked the final :p
It's not even bc Nadal won, bc you know with stuff like that, I'll always just admit the truth. It was a badass match, Nadal was slaying Grigor for a while, but in the 5th set it REALLY looked like he was going to lose.

Great nominations everyone.

Will try not to mention ones people have already said. These are a couple from the notes in my journal this year:

- Thiem vs Dimitrov Brisbane (Might look like a strange nomination. Terrible tactics and strategy but the best pure ball striking I saw from anyone all year. Futuristic ball speeds and aggression and a glimpse into many major finals / semi finals in coming years)

- Nadal vs Zverev Melbourne
- Federer vs Wawrinka Melbourne (this got overshadowed by the other semi which was even better but this match was still incredible. Stan had his chances in this match. Fascinating to think what 2017 would have been like if Stan won this.......)
- Janowicz vs Cilic Melbourne

- Rublev vs Schwartzman Roland Garros
- Halep vs Svitolina Roland Garros

- Fognini vs Roblev Umag (saw this one live - insanely high levels from both players)

- Vekic vs Konta Wimbledon
- Muguruza vs Kerber Wimbledon

- Pouille vs Nadal Beijing

Spoken like someone who was probably talking trash before the final then to picks a different match that Nadal won after Nadal lost the actual final.
If that was the true final, the slam count would now be 18-17.

So it's not anywhere near the "true final." ;)
Relax, guys. I just meant it was the highest quality match in that tournament, much like the Nadal/Verdasco Semifinal was the true Final in the 2009 AO.

Honestly thought that Dimitrov was going to convert one of the two BPs he got deep in the 5th set, which would allow him to try and serve it out. Obviously wasn't to be, can't complain though, or else we wouldn't have gotten that final. The 5th set of the final was the most exciting and nerve racking set of tennis for me all year by a country mile, thanks to what was at stake.

In terms of quality it would be either Nadal-Dimitrov or Fed-Kyrgios for sure. Nadal-Dimitrov gets the edge due to B05 and bigger stage. Clearly the match of the year all things considered imo.

Fed had 2 5-setters of his own(Nishikori & Stan) before the final. Stop making excuses for Rafa!

What? No love for the hippest Scot?

Wawrinka-Murray, the only good match at RG this year, should also make the shortlist (not as good as Fed-Nads or Nads-Dimitrov at AO, but probably more or less on par with the Müller match in Wimby).

I don't follow Fed's matches like that tbh, I really didn't know. Nadal still looked gassed to me regardless. IW/Miami Fed smoked him though so it's not like I think it was a fluke, but I do think Nadal would have stayed ahead with more energy.

i'm worried I'll sound like a troll but for me the most enjoyable match was Fed/Nadal at Indian Wells. It seemed like Fed was playing with sheer joy from
having got Nadal out of his head and it was wonderful to see.

But for quality agree with the people saying Nadal/Dimi semi-final.

It was very enjoyable for sure from a Fed fan perspective definitely. A 9/10.

Like most of the Nadal fanboys.
On to the topic on hand, AO final by a country mile. Fed-Kyrgios was a really crazy match as well and I thought that Federer would be gassed by the final there but he cleaned Nadal's clock.

The Doha Djokarray match was great as well. It' those 3, for me.

Nadal-Dimitrov Aus Open no doubt....edge of the seat stuff throughout.

Special mention to Fed-Kyrgios at Miami and Nadal-Muller at Wimbledon

I think the Australian open had the most significant result of the year
the first 4 sets were not high quality to be fair only the fifth.

dimitrov -nadal wins it for me
