How can it be 'uncertain' if Djokovic saved 3 or 6 MPs v Lopez? It's 2005 not 1905 ffs.
I'd ask @jm1980 to show the conflicting sources, sounds strange but shoddy journalists can and do misreport stats, or did in earlier days when those couldn't be checked in an instant.

The only way to be sure is to watch it yourself, but it's a first round match between two then-irrelevant players, so I imagine one has to dig quite deep to find the recording somewhere.

All the elites have a few of those remarkable comeback/choke jobs they've survived saving multiple match points! A biggie was Novak getting past Tsonga at the FO several years ago overcoming 4 MP's in the 4th set before the Frenchman flatlined the 5th set 1-6!:cautious::rolleyes:;)

Djokovic said the match reminded him of his Wimbledon second-round victory as a qualifier over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in 2005, when he saved six match points to win in five sets.

"It was a very difficult match but I remember I managed to come into the main draw of Wimbledon for the first time and I won against (Juan) Monaco, and second round I won against (Guillermo) Garcia-Lopez after being two sets down and three match points down and then I lost to (Sebastien) Grosjean in four sets.

So both source claims are based on Djokovic's own memory, which is apparently foggy and it isn't surprising, he's not supposed to remember every little detail about his career. I guess there's no immediate match report by anyone who watched it live?

Like you said, it was a second round match between two unknown players.

And the problem is even if such a report existed, I don't know if it could be trusted. I've seen the number of match points saved and wasted being misreported for matches that happened a day or two ago

Djokovic can't even remember where and when he won his 1st title. He once told a French interviewer that he was very fond of France because he had won his maiden title at the Metz tournament. In fact that had been his 2nd title. His maiden title was won at Amersfoort (a Dutch event) a few months earlier. :p

ну да именно, я вообще думал что и трики тоже можно, разве нет, в одном ряду эти три слова стоят:D
Нет. Tricky is the opposite of straightforward... something difficult to deal with because of its complexity. A tricky problem, a tricky shot. Something that requires adjustment and thinking.

But did Federer win more total points?

That's what really matters.
Let us take the high road and never speak of that thread again. I got sucked in as soon as people started pointing out all the typos and the errors in percentages and total points counts. I was one of the folks who kicked ghostofMecir while he was down and I regret it now tbh.

Hopefully they don't delete the thread because the suspicion is he spent a lot more time processing the data than he let on, and the figures were interesting albeit unverified.

I haven’t read the whole thread, so sorry if this has already been said.
In the 20-21 Fed record, it’s notable the high frequency of final set tiebreaker matches.
Of the 20 matches that Fed won after saving MPs, 16 of them (i. e., 80%) were won in the 3rd set tiebreaker.
Of the 21 matches that Fed lost after squandering MPs, 11 of them (more than half) were lost in the final set tiebreaker.
This adds up 27 out of 41 total matches with MPs either in Fed’s favor or against, decided in the final set tiebreaker.
Of those 27 matches defined in final set tiebreakers, 26 of 27 were in a third set, and only one in a fifth set, which was the famous Rome 2006 final that Fed lost to Nadal.

The streaks involving Fed’s 16 final set tiebreakers in his 20 matches with MPs saved are impressive too: Fed won this way his first 4 matches, his first 9 out of 10 matches, and his last 4 matches.
