Match points saved and squandered by the Big Four

Highly reminiscent of the Doha '17 Verdasco win. Monfiasco indeed.

I think Nole saved 5 or 6 MP's in that one against Verdasco! That's what's so frustrating about the "Big 3!" They've all had these comebacks against players that can't seem to finish! IIRC Feliciano Lopez had Roger on the ropes years ago on clay in an early round of a clay Masters! He literally had a 5-1 lead in a 3rd set TB! At that point in command, he "whiffed" on an overhead at the net! He laughed it off and Roger saved point after point until he got ahead in the TB winning it 10-8! Nadal has come back from the dead more than any of them; allowing nobodies, "also rans" and "never-weres" to take him to the limit all the time!

I didn't watch it, but most consider that '13 FO a missed opportunity; being called on either touching or going over the net when close to winning the match! :cautious:

15-3 is pure insanity when you look even closer at the 3. Two happened way before he hit his stride.

With those saved I wish there was a tally of consecutive MPs. Novak has had at least three double MPs to save and a triple. That's pretty different from saving MPs one by one.

The most impressive were those 4 he saved back in 2012 vs Tsonga at RG.

That was unbelievable, and still is.

Felt bad for Tsonga, but surely not for French tennis federation president Gachassin. His demeanor just made it sweeter.

The best part was when the stadium became near empty after the 4th set tb. Couldn't get any worse for Jo.

I just wonder at which exact numbers achieved Djokovic will not be compared to other players any more. Is it 30-3 in matches and 70-7 in points?

Which difference in quantity is sufficient for all to become aware it is actually different quality aka - 'something else'?

Watching but not seeing, seeing but not grasping. Which brings the question - why only 'eye test' to comprehend beyond simple comparisons of absolute and relative numbers? We humans have mind.

Therefore, what prevents a 'mind test'?

I just wonder at which exact numbers achieved Djokovic will not be compared to other players any more. Is it 30-3 in matches and 70-7 in points?

Match points saved is the only mental strength metric that exists or has any significance at all whatsoever? Really?

Looks like 7 matchpoints is the limit.
No more.

Thiem is the Wasting King. He wasted Fed twice, and Rafa once!

He's the only one to waste multiple members of the Big 4.

Can we add to the trivia: first player squandering a MP in the first tournament after a recess of more than one year?
