Baseline mismatch, like a man playing a boy. Djokovic plays his usual, firm and deep-ish ground-game while Gasquet falls well behind baseline to rally and is nowhere near being able to hang in from that position
Match starts unsually. Djoko reels off 3 routine errors to fall 0-40 down. He comes to net to save 2 break points and then its Gasq's turn to yield the routine errors to see Djoko hold. Play continues uneventfully for awhile with both players holding, Gasq relying on net play to do so. He opens game 7 with a FH dtl pass winner from a flubbed Djoko volley to go up 0-15
Djokovic wins the 13 points in a row and 20 of the next 22 to lead 6-2, 2-0. He adds another break later on with back to back BH return winners (1 pounded dtl, 1 placed nicely inside-out) followed by a FH inside-out winner
Baseline 'battle' is as one sided can be. Djoko hits firmly off both sides, with decent depth. Nothing overpowering or overly threatening; this is not one of his everything-landing-inches-from-baseline depth or brute beat-down hitting showings
Gasquet falls well behind baseline to hit back. From that position, it'd be near impossible to not be dictated too. His FH is particularly feeble of hitting force too. High UEFI of 49 from Gasq is product of his getting frustrated and going for wild winner attempts from at least regulation and more often, defensively backward positions. He's got 6 winner attempt and attacking UEs apiece. BH is more often the shot he goes for the flashy dtl or very sharply angled cc shot off, while FH more often is regulation shots
20 UEs in play from Gasq to Djoko's 9 is key stat in play and fair reflection of action
Couple of statistical points of interest. Djoko's basic stats (1st in 65%, 1st won 87%, 2nd won 75%) are shutdown numbers, the kind of figures you see when opponent has 0 break points. In fact, Gasq has 4 over 2 games. That's from Djoko having mini-loose spells, including right at start of match. At start, its potentially problematic but from thereon and once playing dynamics have been established, he has plenty of scope for it
All of 6 of Gasq's return errors have been marked forced, including 1 to a 2nd serve on match point. Djoko also has a 2nd serve ace to end first set. Djoko does more or less whatever he wants with the serve... throwing in average first serves regularly (along with choice strong ones) and normal, safe 2nd serves (along with odd choice strong ones). Gasq doesn't miss anything he shouldn't, good enough job by him on the return
