Still, Fed once he upped his level in thr 2003 SF, he flew all over the court till the end.You could argue that the 2006 Nadal match meant greater challenges though, especially for the backhand, and that's fair enough

Oh God, the early Nadal was so so so electric.

This was back in my days of being a Roddick fan. So I didn’t enjoy this match one bit back then. Since then, it’s become a classic match. Fed’s elegant play won me over for good by 2005.

It seems absurd now, but my memory going into that 2003 Wimbledon semi final is that Roddick was mostly favoured, even though Federer was slightly higher ranked as well. Both had won a grass warm-up, Roddick at Queen's Club and Federer at Halle. Brad Gilbert started coaching Roddick at 2003 Queen's Club.
