We've all had tournaments where we were looking forward to two players meeting in the draw but it didn't happen for whatever reason(e.g. journeyman goating). It seemed like a fun idea to talk about match-ups you wanted to happen at a specific tournament during a specific year, but which unfortunately didn't happen.
So:
Which match-up did you wanted to see(tournament, year)?
And who do you think would've won?
I'll start off with these:
Djokovic- Nadal Roland Garros 2011
We had an evolved Djokovic on a 41 match winning streak. Nothing seemed to faze him, the guy seemed to have an answer for everything and had already beaten the King of clay on two previous occasions that year in straight sets. He seemed to be on course for the final but got stopped by a goating Federer.
On the other hand we had Nadal, coming off a season with three slam wins, still playing at a high level, but perhaps already a little bit shaken by a changed Djokovic. Now, obviously Djokovic outdid Nadal in 2011 and Nadal wasn't playing badly, as is evidenced by the fact that he actually has similar/better numbers than 2010 if you take Djokovic out of the equation. It might seem easy to say that Djokovic would've beaten him in 2011, but let's not forget that RG is Nadal's home. The guy nearly always seems to find a way to raise his level like the 2013 semifinal or 2014 when he looked like crap until the semifinal.
Had this match happened I think it would have been an epic five setter with Djokovic coming out on top after a war of attrition.
Djokovic- Federer Wimbledon 2011
Both were in good shape coming into the tournament and were projected to meet in the semifinal. On one hand we had Djokovic, strong on confidence. On the other hand Federer, six time winner, and hungry for his first slam in more than a year. To be honest I still don't know how Federer lost that match against Tsonga after being up 2-0 in sets

Federer has the numbers on his side as well as what I believe to be the greater grass peak, but was perhaps more vulnerable as is evidenced by losing from being two sets up against Tsonga.
I think it would've been a victory for Federer, had they met, with the match going to four or five sets(I think four).
Federer- Nadal US open 2011
Does this need explanation? They've never met before at this tournament and both displayed tremendous form during the tournament. I think it would've been an epic, had they met in the final. Unfortunately Djokovic spoiled the party by defeating Federer being down double match point on Federer's service, shattering Federer's confidence with an awesome (fluke?) forehand return :neutral:.
Had they met I think Nadal would've clinched it in an epic five setter.
