matches you wish had been on tv

We frequently now-a-days have lots of posters on here who will say "why is this match on TV when (insert names) are playing at the same time?"

I've thought on this for a bit and decided to make a thread out of it. What match or matches do you wish you could have watched on TV? As in live and not tape delayed, as in not seen at all. Based on the score lines or on the players involved.

I'll give an example, one for me would be the 2005 Wimbledon Semifinal between Lindsay Davenport and Amelie Mauresmo. Davenport won (5)67 76(4) 64. I didn't have cable and NBC decided to show Venus vs Sharapova. Now I understand why...Venus a two time former champion vs the defending champion and NBC by then was full on we love the Williams but looking at the score I would have much rather watched the other semi.

Any others?

I really would like to have a recording of the integral US Open 1988 (no not 1989) match between Connors and Agassi.

However some forces do not want this to be available, even fragments on Youtube will be removed and actually accounts have been closed due to this.

There is nowhere on the internet that gives any footage from this match.

really? how odd. The '89 match is much more interesting though.

good lord, I don't know where to begin. I'll just stick to the Australian Open, it had pretty limited coverage in the US pre 2000.

The famous Sampras-Courier QF in '95 was shown edited & on tape delay many hours after it was played on ESPN. I only got a copy of the full match many years later.

1992 was the first year ESPN had coverage of any of the 1st week of the AO. Mac had caused quite a stir with his upset of Becker in the 3rd round(and all we saw in the US was highlights on Sportscenter) but espn had a 2 hour window of live coverage of the matches on the first Sunday which included the some of Mac-Sanchez's epic. ESPN had to leave the air midway through the 2nd set. can you imagine what the reaction would be today to something like this? there was only like 20 hours of that event each year of the event in the 90s - and half on tape delay. now there are like 120 hours, at least! and all live. and people still find something to complain about, unreal.

I also wished I could have seen Becker's 5 setter with Camporese at the '91 AO. Remember reading about it the next day in the paper. 7-6, 7-6, 0-6, 4-6, 14-12 sounded pretty exciting.

A tennis fan in the 80s/90s watching on TV could only see a fraction of the tennis that fans can see today.

^^Also wish I'd seen more from the Austrailian Open in the 80s and early 90s. The finals were broadcast in Sweden (except, famously the 1985 which caused an uproar considering it was between 2 swedes ) but not the earlier rounds. This was in the day before cable and satellite TV so in Sweden we only had public TV.

I wish in particular I had seen Edberg's trashing of Wilander in the 1990s SF. I was 14 and my idol was at his peak.
