Mats Wilander speaks the truth

Mats is commentating the Seppi-Roddick match which isn't all that thrilling. His co-commentator just brought up the fact that Mats' first title was the French Open in 1982 where he beat Lendl, Gerulaitis, Clerc and Vilas as an unseeded player.

Mats' reply: "I was the worst GS tournament champion of all time. I only won it because Borg wasn't there. I just pushed my way to the title against all those guys who were hoping to finally win it. All I did was put the ball back and they took care of the rest. When I won it in 1988 I would have beaten the Wilander of 1982 in straight sets 6-1 6-1 6-1."

Legend
He really said that? I know that Mats was always rough on his 17-year old self, but that's a bit surprising.

Worth noting is that about 6-8 months before Mats' French Open win in 1982, Borg beat him 6-1, 6-1 in Geneva on red clay.

He just came up with another awesome quote:

"All you kids watching at home, don't imitate Roddick's service motion. It's the best in the game, but there's something wrong with his wrist."

Semi-Pro
I saw Mats on the tennis channel being interviewed...All I can say I had a lot more respect for him before the interview. The guys seemed kinda bitter that the current group of players are making so much money and didn't have the talent like he did. He has an enormous EGO!.....about his own skills and was knocking Fed and other top pros. That turned me off 200%
Mats was a pusher and retriever.....boring to watch but we don't need bitter old tennis pros crying in their milk.
