Maximizing the power, spin, and launch angle of Head Gravity Pro with a string setup

I have 2021 and 2023 versions of Head Gravity Pro, and I am trying to increase its power, spin potential and launch angle while retaining other great characteristics of this frame (feel, precision and control).

Given its high spin potential and alleged power boost, I am currently experimenting with Dunlop Black Widow 17. So far, I like the results, but I am a little bit leary about BW's short tension maintenance.
I considered mixing 48lbs Head Lynx Tour 17 with slick, affordable poly like Tourna Big Hitter 7 Silver or slick, high-tension maintenance multi like Velocity MLT.

I was wondering if anyone here has any other recommendations.
I am, again, looking to boost the spin, power, and launch angle while not losing much on the fantastic control, feel and precision of the frame.

Any ideas and recommendations are appreciated.

maximizing power AND spin is not possible with strings if you want longer tension maintenance. For power and spin I would suggest Head Lynx (regular version), but tension maintenance is not better. For more power I would suggest hybrid with gut or multi, but that wont give you more spin.

FWIW I have been using Tour Bite 17 in my GP 360+ for a couple years now and I enjoy it. That being said, its not a powerful setup as I look more for control, but it has a decent launch angle and plenty of spin. The tension maintenance isn't great either, but you get about 8-10 hours of playability. If you wanted more power you could probably put a multi or syn gut in the cross and would probably work well. I just recently purchased a couple sets of Lynx Tour 18, but I haven't had a chance to test it out yet.

Thanks! Please let me know your impressions when you do. I play matches with Radical MP, but GP is so fantastic to hit with. I just need a bit more power and angle.

Really the only way to get higher launch in this 18x20 pattern is using a thinner string, which will give you the power, spin, and launch you are looking for but in turn the tension maintenance is much worse. Buy yourself a reel and a stringer and problem solved!

Yup. Have one problem solved (stringer); working on the right string to solve the another (reel) :)

in general
more shaped a string - higher launch angle from the bite
thinner string - good for spin ( string movement, but string wont last as long )
lower tension - more power.

also, if the string says soft on it like hyper g soft, it usually means more power due to more elasticity

work around those 3 to find your string of choice to find the right combo for you.

Try something like Solinco Barbed Wire at around 35-38 pounds. If natural gut is an option for you, you can get about as much spin with it as you can with a poly. I'm guessing if you are looking for more power, you're not swinging so hard as to get any benefit from poly, so your spin and launch angle would probably increase more with natural gut than any poly.

Thanks, Steve. I really appreciate your advice. I might need to go with gut-like multi because natural gut is too expensive for me for these string in/cut out experiments.

Btw - I am really trying to figure out if I could get a spin potential, power and launch angle of GP close to my Radical MP 360+ while retaining the (incredible) feel and control of Gravity Pro, so I could switch to it. The difference is not huge but it is noticeable in my point play, where the balls have less depth and spin hurting my percentage.

I LOVE playing with GP, but I don’t want it to degrade my game with low power/low launch angle (a common concern with this frame by many players).

In other words, I am trying to understand if a small string tweak could help me accomplish this. This is not much about compensating for something in my game, unless I really have to fundamentally change my play style to be able to play GP (start hitting flatter and always harder).

Not a fan of a hybrid setup in either the 21 or the 23 GP. The trajectory is too low on groundies and you can say goodbye to whatever minimal spin you were getting on the kicker.

Thinner gauge poly works well for extra power and spin. You obviously sacrifice durability but… buy more sticks and rotate.

Better to be dialed in and have to replace strings once a week than be constantly searching for something that doesn’t exist. My current string of choice in my ‘23 GP’s is Black Code 4S 17 at 52lbs.

Just my two cents.

Gut/poly. String to your preferred tension but I would recommend ~5lb differential (I.e NG mains at 55, poly at 50lbs). Playability will last until you break the strings which will be much longer than any poly would use. Multi/poly will not give you the same feel, durability, spin or launch angle but maybe you can use it as a reference for tensions.
