Mayami strings

Does anyone in the US have issues checking out and paying? I keep getting "2000 Payment declined by issuing bank". I called my bank and they said they don't see any charges and could be system issue on Mayamis side.

The issue is the underlying bank that issued the card is refusing the transaction because Mayami's bank and payment processor is located in Ukraine. I bet if you call them again and tell them the receiving bank is in Ukraine, they will tell you they won't process transactions or payments to that country. PayPal, for example, will not allow transactions originating or payments going to banking institutions in Ukraine, which is kind of funny since the founder of the company, the coding genius who wrote the original encryption algorithms, was born there.

Placed an order recently and it went through and I just got a notice that it shipped. 40% off sale. Loving Hit Pro in my UT.

How do you find Hit Pro works? I'm tempted to get a set for my Speed Pro's
For me it’s super plush and has great feel and ball pocketing without being very over powered, part of that could be the racquet being on the low powered end of the spectrum. The other thing I noticed was that it has the best tension maintenance of any string I’ve ever tested using the racquet tune app.

I was getting low on Magic Twist and went overboard with Mayami's Christmas sale (40% off, no minimum, no shipping fee for orders over $28). After reading the last two posts, maybe I should have got a few sets of Hit Pro to try, too??? @JOSHL How long does it last for you and what are you string it at?

Do you have experience with Tour Hex as well?

I'm hitting with Magic Twist in a Blade Pro right now and loving it. Good spin and pretty good feel. I'll need to try the Hit Pro again. The first time I tried it was in a open pattern Prince Phantom 305X @ 50lbs and it felt too springy? I'll need to try it again in the BP so I can compare with MT.

I cut it out after probably 12 or so hours but not because it wasn’t usable just because I wanted to try other string. Strung it at 48lbs. When my reel comes in I’ll send you some sets and if you want you can send me some magic twist as I have never used that one. :)

@smithie Thanks. How long did the Tour Hex last until you noticed a drop in its performance or it went dead and you had to cut it out?
Tour Hex's tension maintenance to me, was very good and what tension it did lose, it does so slowly and linearly so there wasn't a huge drop off in playability. Whereas S7T off the stringer starts out a little stiffer and then loosens up after an hour to a point where it maintains its tension until it brakes/goes dead (obviously S7T does loose some tension throughout its life but to me the change is so small that there is no discernible difference between hour 2 and hour 10).
In terms of how long each lasted, that will vary player to player, but assuming I wouldn't break the string first I would get around 8-10 hours out of Tour Hex and 12-14 out of S7T before I would cut them out.

Thanks

Seems like soon there will be another triangular string coming out from them. Interesting choice considering they already have success with Big Spin

Yes, I received email from them today-

Finally. Our NEW String: MAYAMI MACHETE - triangular spin monster in the tennis string market

Now there are two types of triangular strings in our line: Mayami Big Spin #1 (triangular twist) in spin and #1 overall category in stringforum and Mayami Machete triangular spin king

I was really hoping for a square shaped string, but it will still be interesting to try machete.

Big Spin was pretty comfortable so hopefully that's still the case. Although Green isn't synonymous with 'soft' when it comes to poly.

My one wish is that Tour Hex came in different colors.
It is probably my favorite string, but it just doesn't look great in my Blade Pro.

Might as well just play with a real machete. Just make sure you change the overgrip so it doesn't go flying out of your hand

Asked them on Instagram and the difference between machete and big spin is:

"Big spin its triangular twisted string. Machete its triangular. Big spin softer. Machete has bigger control and spin"

Hi guys. Yesterday I got my 2 rackets back with a full bed of Big Spin 24/23kg. And Iam worried, because in the cross section, the first and the last cross of the string is heavily twisted (not beacuse of the triangle twisted profile). Is there a chance those strings will break sooner than it should, or It will have no affect at all? Maybe I should change my stringer guy...Thanks for your answers!

I've heard it is something that can happen with Big Spin and it's normal

Don't worry, this is something that happens quite often with Big Spin fb. It doesn't affect the playability and the strings won't break sooner.

go back to about comment #172 in this thread and you will see a lengthy conversation about this that I originally brought up

Just a quick follow up on my recent string testing, trying to find something that I may like more than YPTP 120 (lacking a little bite) and Hyper-G (too low powered and lacking comfort for me) that were my main strings in the last couple of years, with a small preference toward YPTP for now. Here are some thoughts after a 1.5 hour session trying out Hit Pro and Hepta Power both at 48lbs (around 22kg) in matched Gravity Pros. First of all, impressively fast shipping to Canada from Mayami. Nothing against the brand, but overall not cheap when you want to try sets before buying a reel, mostly because of shipping cost and poor change rate.

From the start, it creates a similar comparison, Hepta Power feeling a bit like Hyper-G; low powered, nice bite, not very comfortable (from the advertising and reviews, I did have the expectation of more power and comfort than what it delivered); it is also a bit deader like my memories of Cyclone black; overall a good string but lacking in power for me and has that sort of "hollowness" that I felt with Cyclone. Great for heavy topspin groundstrokes, but not the best for touch/feel. And Hit Pro feeling more like YPTP; smooth, comfortable, precise, maybe a bit higher launch angle, but overall less spin, needing to adjust my swings to generate similar amount of spin. Will have to play it more to see if I get to see more qualities to it and determine if it can replace YPTP for me but not sure of that. Both interesting strings, easily comparable to pricier and more well known brands.

Next step, some more time trying out the two strings. And then, will be trying of Signum Pro Firestorm in two different gauges.

In the end, I may have to go towards a hybrid setup, since it may be the only way to get qualities from both round and shaped profiles at once...

I would havce definitely given Tour Hex a look as well. Amazing string.

I did not have the same outcome with Hepta power and maybe it can be because of your racquet.
I play with the DR 89 and before i tested for a month with hepta i tested tour hex for a few weeks as well.
To me hepta compared to tour hex felt more comfortable with more power and similar touch response but that came after a couple hours of hitting. The spin potential was similar but not as good as hex. I actually liked more hepta because i felt the ball was more penetrating. It reminded me of that time i tested the head lynx edge.

Wasn't particulary impressed by Hepta Power myself, better than Big Spin for me, way worse than Tour Hex and a Tour Hex/Hit Pro hybrid.
I'll try full bed Hit Pro next, although some reports indicate that it looses tension fast (according to @Richard Pioline )...

Myself I've compared Hepta Pro and Tour Hex in the Pro Kennex d Q+ 5 Pro (Black and Yellow) (2020), aka Doppio, a whippy racquet.

If you're looking for a soft, shaped, comfortable string that doesn't feel mushy, check out Ytex.

I really enjoyed their Quadro twist, but I'm a bit cheap, so I bought a reel of their Square X yesterday. Same chemical formula, just not twisted.

Don't worry, this is something that happens quite often with Big Spin fb. It doesn't affect the playability and the strings won't break sooner.

I beg to differ. Depending on where the twisted section is in the string bed, it will indeed affect playability, at least in my experience. Yes, there is a way to string it for a more consistent string bed. You can't use the same technique of weaving and pulling tension that you would with round or hex-shaped strings. In some cases, the grommets near the throat in some racquets will cause the string to twist abnormally, too. As to if it will break sooner, yeah, it could, depending on the frame where the overtwist is located.

My impression from reviews was that it may be less comfortable on the arm than Hepta Power. I may give it a try after current tests.
I string low at 47/44 in all the frames in my sig + TF40 305 and it is comfortable enough, more controlled and maintains tension forever (like 2 months of daily hits, but...waxing it to improve snap back).

@lordkarim Myself I prefered Tour Hex to Big Spin, but I only tried to latter once.

Haven't even tried hitting with it yet, but I think I'm just going to cut it out. Even though its the last 2 crosses, it has to have some effect on how the the mains will perform because of the twisting that occurred

Don't know what happened. My certified stringer (and I'm not putting you down or anything, besides kudos for saving $20 on each stringing job) had better luck with mine...

Last two crosses? Not going to hurt your shots, but give you something to use as an excuse if needed :-)

From my experience, the twisting shown in the photo below is from the bottom grommets and string itself. You will get this every time if you start weaving with just a foot or two of string pulled through the hole. When weaving the last two or three crosses it is best to pull all of the string through the hole first before starting the first weave. Pulling the last two crosses is better than push weaving. So far this has happened to me with CX200, Pure Strikes, and every Blade I've done.

Received an email this afternoon from Mayami as I am sure many did that they are pausing sales for 10 days. There is also a chance they may not continue doing business due to the lack of sales and low margins. Sad, they make excellent strings and I am rooting for them but it also shows how competitive the industry can be, Hopefully this is a short term pause.
