My gosh namelessone, stop being so dam pessimistic. Just enjoy the win :)

I'll be honest though, I hope the rest if the clay tourny's are more exciting from a tennis point of view. This week was not exciting at all. I even fell asleep in Fed's matches which were completely meh as well

oh namelessone...(sigh). always worrying. but he's OK! he's healthy, and playing DeVeed, particularly on clay, was never going to be a walkover...not ever. and rafa won in two. he's truly ok.

He needs to up his game. Massively.

I don't know what's wrong with him but I think he is maturing in a way. He seems more bored/jaded out there, doesn't focus as in the past(won too much on clay perhaps?) and doesn't have patience as before. Personally I think that his focus on improving his HC game has hurt his clay one somewhat.

My 2 cents.

It's great that he's able to win CC titles with his B game(sometimes C game) but this won't work in a match with big hitters/djoker, maybe even fed.

Hope he focuses on improving his game and especially trying to have a more offensive approach when the situation calls for it(like at 0-40 on opponents serve :) )

Bitter Fed worshipper what are you doing here? You find it boring yet you can't help but watch the King of clay dominates his opponents like he always does lol. This just the beginning.
Deluded Nad worshipper I'm free to go where I want. And unlike you and your comrades I haven't been trolling in the thread throughout the match talking about how Nad's opponents just 'bend over' or 'choke' or his 'cakewalk draws' etc.so do not even think of lecturing me.
Oh and I didn't bother to watch the match.I know what sort they're of.Just an old record playing for the 100th time.So stop making moronic assumptions about me,okay?thanks.Bai.
Oh and if you're going to dish out crap better learn to take it as well.

I hope this gives Rafa the boost he needs for this year. Good thing is, he wasn't looking tired, the way he was looking in Miami/IW finals. I think his game will fall into place. He played a very different hard court game for the past 7-8 months. Not to mention, got the job done!!

Fantastic win for Rafa.

7th Monte Carlo in a row. He is truely a legend.

He needed this victory badly and got it without even playing his best.

Not impressed with Rafa even though he won. There were some shots that he would have made with no problem if he was playing at his normal level. Plus, Ferrer was taking most of his service games to Deuce ala Murray yesterday. To be fair he has said that transition from hard to clay may not always be as smooth as last year, but he needs to find his game in double quick time if he wants to have any chance of retaining RG and Wimby.

The way he is playing now, even if he won RG he would not be 100% going into Wimby.

Congrats to Rapha. He's not anywhere close to his best, but still a good win, and a decent final. Thanks to Ferrer for putting up a fight. He had his opportunities.

Rapha seems to be there for Barcelona. Is Novak playing there ??

This is Nadal's last title in Monte Carlo. You can refresh this post in a year from now.

Wishful thinking or do you actually have a reason for saying this?

they were both pathetic slugfests.

Thought you said you didn't bother to watch the match. So how would you know?

The thing is no one even cares.

Says the Fed fan. If it was Federer racking up the seventh consecutive whatever-title, I bet you'd care plenty.

Nope. Isn't there some tourney in Belgrade soon?

No, but Ferrer, Murray, Soderling and of course Rafa are.

Djokovic will play 3 weeks in a row.

Belgrade-Madrid-Roma. No need for 4th with Barcelona.

I wonder if 7 (or possibly 8+) consecutive tournament wins will ever be achieved again in our lifetimes.

Awesome too that it's at the 1000 tour level instead of the 500 or 250 levels

Nadal is also going for a record 6th consecutive title in Barcelona, if he decides to play

It's amazing, isn't it? :)

I'm not entirely sure if I'm for him playing Barca. He will have a week off after and he def needs more practice on clay before Madrid, so it might be good for him. It's also good that top players are playing there, he needs to fix all his weaknesses on clay before Madrid/Rome.

Thanks a lot bud. that answers all my questions.

Seems Robin is doing 4 in a row, even though he's injured (or was). Basically, we have to wait till Madrid to see the top guys again together -- I am not sure of Andy's health at Barca.

Could be another Ferrer Nadal final at Barca ???

I don't think Andy will play Barca. He said he would announce today if he's going.

Do you know what "Barca" actually means?

The thing is no one even cares.

People who don't care about achievements of that magnitude are not true tennis fans. And yes, that includes you.

It must be terrible to be bitter at a player you hate because they're so dominant.

I hate Fed but I have no problem admitting that the guy still has the natural gifts to pull another major out of his *** (even during his obvious decline).

Just accept that Rafa is in the chase for goat status and has a career that's worthy of admiration.

I mean come on, he played like **** this entire tournament and still got the chip. His clutch mind allows him to power through his worst moments using only a weak forehand.

You don't have to like the guy or his game but jesus christ; you can at least tip your cap to the dude.

Was hoping for a set but oh well, reaching the final was a very good result for Ferrer though. He'll continue what could easily be another great clay season in Barcelona.

Yep... based on that, Federer is skipping Estoril this year

actually is more like the opposite as we are skipping Fed (budget issues), as you may have heard about the financial crisis going on with us.

the top dogs on Estoril this year are Soderling, del Potro, Verdasco, Fernando, Bellucci, Simon & Raonic

Dark lol!

(you know I am laughing at your ability to twist the dire situation into some good black humour, right, Gor? Don't take it the wrong way, things are not much better this side of the border.)

Yeah and he was injured and still dominated the second set 6-2. Djokovic would've finished the job in the final. lol at Ferrer playing terribly.

I was unaware that the rules of tennis changed and winning a second set out of three or a hypothetical situation regarding an absentee player negated a W.

Nicely done.
