"Venus and Serena Williams, the two most popular female athletes in America, will be making a rare Charlotte appearance as the McDonald's Williams Sisters Tour rolls through the Queen City. In addition to the match, the evening will feature appearances by teen musical sensation Sammie and acclaimed saxophonist Mike Phillips."

I checked the arena website and tickets go from $20 to $150. Somehow, I think I'll miss this one.

lol!

Over on the arena ticket website, Serena'a brief bio:

Serena turned pro at 14 and has won a total of 26 singles titles and seven Grand Slam titles (most recently the 2005 Australian Open). Serena is also an actress that has been featured in variety of movies and television programs including ER, My Wife and Kids, Street Time and Hairspray.

Half of the bio is about Serena's acting. Venus' bio is all about her tennis accomplishments, so I guess this says something.

I think Serena could be #1 again if she could get serious and dedicate herself 100% to tennis, but I don't think it's going to happen. I think she proved her superiority, made a bundle of money, and now can't find the effort to climb the ladder again.

I got an email about this and thought it was a joke at first. I have never heard of teen musical sensation "Sammie" (not that that means anything) and I can't imagine spending good money to watch them play badly against each other, or whatever else it is they're planning to do.

Well you clearly care otherwise you wouldnt have bothered posting what you did.

Unless of course you 'accidentally' clicked the link and thought you'd add your great comment.

Its funny really that love or hate the Williams sisters they still manage to draw your attention. After all you clearly dont like them and you dont care about them - yet you posted a message. Just classic really. I love it!

How come McDonald's is getting them involved? Are they like endorsing McDonald's or stng??
The Sisters have done McD's commercials for a few years. Look at Serena - she didn't get that out of shape on Slimfast...

I would hope the tennis fans of Charlotte would attend the ladies tournament in SC (Bausch & Lomb?) in the Spring or go to Key Biscayne in March if they want to see pro tennis in person. Shelling out $$$'s for an exhibition seems senseless.

I'm pretty sure Sammie is in that techno song Heaven. The dj is dj yano as well, i believe.

I don't like either of the williams sisters really, and i don't plan on attending the tour if it is near here.

Local Charlotte paper Creative Loafing just printed/posted an announcement for next week's tour stop:

Two women with the same surname have dominated the finals of every Grand Slam in tennis for the past several years. They're back again to show their stuff but with a higher purpose in mind -- to assist Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The third annual McDonald's Williams Sisters Tour arrives in Charlotte today. Venus and Serena put on an exhibition match that no sane person will want to miss. Also on the roster are musical performances by Sammie and Mike Phillips. The event will be held at Charlotte Bobcats Arena, 333 East Trade St., at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20-$150 (courtside).

I didn't realize they were still dominating the slams. Yeah, I know, not S&V's fault, but some clueless reporter. I guess I'm insane, because I do want to miss this one.

trial?

Guess the current breach of contract lawsuit where they failed to appear after father Richard committed them will be in recess so they can appear in yet another exhibition. Caveat emptor!

This is truly pathetic. These types of events give tennis a bad name.... making it more of an "entertainment" event rather than just some good competitive tennis. They're trying desperately to sell this event like the Williams are still big stars. They are not. No one cares about them anymore.

I can't imagine who would buy tickets to go see two Has-Beens and a lame musical act who's claim-to-fame is doing a techno version of a Brian Adams song.

Yeesh. How sad.
