UPS just delivered my new Dunlop Mcenroe Maxplay, and I've got to say I'm very pleased with this racquet. Take note, however, I haven't played with it yet. The racquet is gorgeous. I thought it was a cool looking racquet in pictures online, but it is really good looking in person. In the pictures I could see where someone could find the colors possibly gaudy, but in person it's actually quite classy looking. My one disappointment is that it has a black bumper guard and grommet strip as opposed to the tan-ish one shown on the TW website.
I am very impressed with the leather grip. I'm a big fan of leather grips. I've tried leather grips from Bobolat, Wilson, ProKennex, Volkl, Prince, and I even have two Fairway grips. Compared to any of those the leather grip included on this racquet feel the best by far. It's hard to explain, but it has a very soft feel that is not rough or "dry" feeling at all in your hand, but yet it still has the firm feel of leather. Some leather grips are a little too harsh on the hands and can become slippery. Not this one. It feels like nicely oiled leather. It a very classy color too. A little darker than most tan/brown leather grips available now. I'd rather use this grip bare, but it's so nice I'm tempted to use a tournagrip with it just to protect the beautiful leather. The red finishing tape is also a nice touch as a tribute to the old wood maxply this racquets cosmetics are made to resemble.
I ordered mine strung with Klip natural gut at 58 lbs. So far, best as I can tell without being on the court, it hase a very nice feel. I was concerned that the 11.3 ounce weight was going to be too light. I normal prefer racquets in the 12.3-12.8 range. It doesn't feel quite like that, but it does feel heavier and more solid than the typical 11.3 ounce frame. I assume this is due to it being only 3 points head light, although it feels much more maneuverable than one would assume a racquet of that balance would feel. While bouncing a ball on the strings and taking a few volleys against my apartment's wall (I really hope my neighbors weren't home), it had a very solid feel to it. It has a little noticeable vibration on contact with the ball, but it is very light sensation. Some would probably just consider it as "good feedback". The sweetspot seems to be quite high in the stringbed compared to the racquets I am used to; but at least for now, I think I'm going to enjoy that fact. The racquet also seems to resist twisting better that I would expect for an 11.3 ounce frame.
I'm hoping to hit the court with it late this afternoon, and I'll try to let you guys know more about how it plays after that. In all, I'm very pleased with my purchase (although that tan bumper would have really taken the racquet high up the classy scale), and can't wait to get it out on the court.
