I'm willing to believe Wawrinka is a hothead, but Lopez was indeed being very annoying.

But still, I dont think she shouts during the points? Why does it bother waw that mirka is showing emotions?

I think she knows at this stage that you cant talk during rallies, no?

Wawrinka was also mad at lopez in wimbledon 4th round this year, and was complaining to the umpire that lopez was saying something AFTER the points were finished. Video of this:http://youtu.be/2iJIHZhZ0GY

I think this is more of a problem with Wawrinka being a sore looser and takes out his anger at others. Lame moove.

Just the same article as everybody can read on Eurosport, Espn or anywhere else.

It really doesn't say much, but both the text and the video make it clear that Wawrinka did not like the noise he thought Mirka made between a first and second serve.

Federer used to have a problem with Djokovic's parents getting over-involved and Wawrinka seems to have a similar problem with Mirka Federer.

Apparently it was. Waw has said himself to le parisie it was her he had an exchange with and that she did the same in their wimbledon match. This sounds pretty legit as they discussed in the locker room after the match, maybe to sort things out?

Federer vs. Wawrinka WTF14 SF: http://youtu.be/ebaoeO_bXd0

Here is the video of that incident at 5-5 deuce. Feds box were sitting at that side right?

If you're talking about this edition of Le Parisien: http://www.leparisien.fr/sports/aut...re-federer-et-wawrinka-16-11-2014-4296751.php, this is not what is said here.

It says roughly (in the paragraph with a picture of Mirka): "Nobody knows what was said between the two players, but Wawrinka showed a lot of irritation during the match. His annoyance was presumably aimed at Mirka Federer, whom he allegedly criticized for cheering for her husband between points."

So, you might be right, but this is all speculation at this stage, and Wawrinka certainly said nothing to Le Parisien, at least according to this piece.

Wawrinka said two things I clearly heard on the video:

Not just before the serve' 'Do you hear what she's saying?

And the one I could not make out might be the:

'She did the same thing at Wimbledon'

You obviously don't, nor ever have, played tennis seriously at a high level. To think that a tennis player, who needs to play for several hours on end 11 months of the year, needs legs like a rugby player is ridiculous. Every kilo over what you need is more strain on the knees, ankles and feet. And not to mention every extra kilo you have to lug around the court. Even if a player did decide to train heavy legs all year round, which is ridiculous, you do realise they wouldn't gain much, if any, weight at all given they are running 3-4 hours today around the court? In college i would drop 6-8 pounds in 3 months of play in season after the off season. PLaying tennis strips your body of everything you don't need. Tennis players probably focus more on the athletic side of the sport now than ever before, and i can only think of cycling and boxing as sports with more finely tuned bodies. Novak and Federer are perfect tennis specimens. Strong legs with very lean upper bodies who generate power from timing, legs, and core. They would have extremely strong forearms and wrists by the way. Whipping a 350gram wand around several thousand times a day will do that. Again, it is highly specialised.

Those bands that rafa is 'messing around with' are training the little muscles in his back (rotator cuff) and legs used for stability and injury prevention. A tennis player these days is extremely fine tuned, strong core and legs with a very lean physique is required so that you can move and play for 4-5 hours on end. SUre carter is very explosive but he is a freaking rugby union player, the least aerobic form of rugby around. Of the 80 minutes they play he probably only actually runs 40 or so given scrums, line outs and stoppages. And he plays once a week. He has to be much stronger than a tennis player cuz bloody back rowers at 115kg try and break him and he has to be able to break a line of men all over 100kg. Carter is finely tuned for his sport the same way rafa is. And by the way, no way is carter over 105kg, id say he would be more around 95-98 maybe.

Yeah, Carter is 95kg - that's 15 stone. Wawrinka is apparently 81kg, or 12.5st. Wawrinka is also 2 inches taller than Carter. Carter doesn't look very much bigger than Wawrinka, but his training has made him dense and heavy whereas Wawrinka is soft and light.

I was suggesting that Nadal do his heavy training on top of his existing prehab work. I understand the importance of prehab for rotator cuff work.

Tennis players cannot gain weight because they burn so many calories? The solution is simple. Eat a heck of a lot more. Michael Phelps eats 12K calories per day. Murray is one of the slightly heavier tennis players and he eats half of that (6000 calories per day). I doubt many other tennis players even eat as much as that, no wonder they are all skinny and underdeveloped. So eat whatever it takes to gain the mass (if that is the goal). 20,000 calories per day if needs be.

I am also not advocating that tennis players just bench press. I think they should do no work on their upper body, and do heavy, heavy weight training on their lower body - where the power is generated from. They should be walking around with hulking massive thighs and calves. Yes, Nadal's thighs are very slim for a sportsman.

Having massive legs like that does not put an additional strain on the lower body, because you have developed the lower body itself - very different to if you were running around with a hulking upper body on matchstick legs.

There speaks someone that's never played rugby at a high level. Rugby? Not aerobic? Are you joking? I played district level rugby and college tennis, and rugby is every bit as aerobic as tennis...plus folk are trying to beat the bejayzus out of you.

Whenever they show mirka on the screen it never looks as if she's shouting much, especially not loud enough for the players to hear, she never looks as if she's straining when cheering for Roger it looks more like a slight whisper of come on Roger. Really can't see that she would disturb play, whenever i've been at a live match watching Roger, and i've seen him 6 times, i've never seen her or heard her yelling out. Wish someone would shine some more light on this situation because it does seem unlikely and strange.

Regardless of your observations, it's clear what happened and there's even a video of it.

To what extent Mirka is at fault or whether Stan is simply being overly sensitive is the only unknown.

Plenty of video and comments coming out that she was getting under Stan's skin and did it in the past.......as for McEnroe all he heard was the "discussion" in the locker room but since the conversation between Roger and Stan was in French (and McEnroe admits he can barely order coffee in French) has no real idea what was said.

Well, there's always the offside chance that they *did* talk about ordering coffee, of course... ;)

Fed really needs to control Mirka. I watched the match and she was screaming the whole match! She's the only one in Federer's box who screamed like that. Everyone including Edberg was well composed. I think what went on in the locker room was definitely about Mirka not knowing how to behave in the player's box.

Wawrinka should have done this and gave Fed some of his own medicine back:

Anytime I've seen Mikra on screen she's hardly been obnoxious and unlike Djokovic's parents, we haven't heard complaints about her.

But if she was doing something that irritated Stan, you could hardly expect Federer to tell Stan, "yes my wife, who gave up her career to support mine, should shut up".

If Mirka was intentionally trying to distract Stan, then Stan has every right to be annoyed by it. Just because she is Roger's wife, doesn't mean that she conducts herself in a less than professional manner. It is OK to cheer and support your guy, but when it is done with the intention to upset the concentration of the other player, that is simply wrong. Again, that is IF she was doing this, because honestly I don't know and I know Stan can get really hot headed...remember how he called out Nadal for running off the court in Melbourne?

I don't know if it's true or not but it would be easy to prove, I think. Don't they always have cameras trained on the top players' entourage? I am sure it was very tough for Stan and it got even worse after Roger's withdrawal. I hope they can sort it out.

Mirka should be kicked out. She is worse than Toni.

Stan is a hothead. I saw him last year, the day after the Toni incident, he had his hood up and was still raging. Still signed my programme though

I have sat at Federer matches a couple of times, and sometimes a few rows behind Mirka. The one thing I noticed was that she was very fidgety, a lot of nervous energy, even when Roger was playing in cruise control. But, I didn't really hear her scream out inappropriately whenever I saw her. I am not saying she did do it, I am saying IF she did it, then it is not right.

Sure. They have cameras on these people all the time. At the end of the day, these two were in the middle of a battle, and they both did what they needed to to win, you simply can't ask more from two competitve athletes. And if Stan didn't uncharacteristically serve on volley on ALL his MPs, he would have probably won...can't blame Roger for that.

Mirka should be kicked out. She is worse than Toni.

Stan has been known to blow up. Maybe he should do some UFC to let out his aggression. I am certain he can at least beat up the big four, if it came to a real fight. :)

I am telling you, Stan can probably pound the big four into submission without needing a racquet. ;) I am sure when he is in the mood to fight, the others probably stay far away. :)

I did notice that Mirka was overly vocal during the match. It just does not make sense to be that vocal in a non Grand Slam match against a good friend and Davis cup team mate. Stan's wife on the other hand just applauded and was not vocal.

Well unless she was vocal at inappropriate times, like during Wawrinka's service or in the middle of points, she didn't do anything wrong.

And it's a big deal for Federer, as it was his last chance at the next best thing to a Major.

Do you have a clip to back up what you are saying ?

ESPN panned on her several times and every time she would either just clap or give a cheer with her hands covering the sides of her mouth , so that it is not too loud.

I have the ESPN recording that shows McEnroe saying that it was a rowdy fan heckled at Stan causing him to get upset in the 6-5 game. Wonder why he did not say then it was Mirka.

I have always seen Mirka conduct herself very well , even though you can see how much any win means to her.

She is never vociferous like Novak's parents or Tio Toni.

I have to see to believe.

I know Mirka can be a bad loser like Fed, like the time when she pretended checking her phone and not congratulating Novak when he passed her by with the trophy.

But I don't believe she will distract Stan during a match.

Where is it clear beyond doubt :-? What Stan said is clear in the video but how do you know whom it was directed at ? Some people at the stadium believe it was directed at a linesperson (who was probably there at Wimbledon too ?)

If Stan has issue with Roger, I'm sure it has to do with hurting their chances for Davis Cup. To the Swiss, a DC championship is way more important than Federer's hopeless chance of beating Djoker, especially since Djoker already clinched the top spot regardless of the match outcome.

Fed was probably itching to play, and his whole team cornered him and said not to. They probably wanted him to "take one for the team" and withdraw to save himself for DC.

Anyone who has played on teams before would know just how passionate a team can be if they have a chance to go all the way. The minute you get wind that one of your top players is going to do something stupid to jeopardize everything for the team, that's when you confront them about it.

Fed was going to waste himself needlessly and Stan had a problem with it. Rightly so.
