McEnroe says Djokovic reminds him of Tiger Woods

McEnroe, himself a three-time champion at the All England Club, said on the BBC that Djokovic was “distracted” and the person who comes to mind in similar circumstances “is not a tennis player, it’s actually a golfer: Tiger Woods.”

“I really don’t take anything personal. I always got along very well with John,” Djokovic said. “You know, I guess whether that’s his opinion or criticism or something else, I’m not really sure. But in the end of the day, I respect everything he says.”

McEn-Jerk opens his mouth again...

You have hit the bull's eye with this one.
I can't for the life of me think why he would make such a statement about Novak. He's fallen no farther than Nadal and Federer during their bad years. Why assume he isn't going to snap back?

McEnroe would do better to compare himself to Woods...

Absolutely. I think Djokovic is playing very well. He will shut some mouths sooner rather than later.

I can't even believe my own reaction to this whole mess. I've never liked his game. I always rooted against him when he was winning.

But now I find myself stubbornly rooting for him because I think people have been horribly unfair to him, even cruel. I just don't think he has done anything to deserve it.

Plus I'm a sucker for underdogs.

Nadal and Fed got theirs. I'm not rooting for Novak, but I'll also be happy for him if he wins.

Or Murray. He's gotten a ton of crap this year too...

Diplomatic language. Djokovic knows how to talk like one when necessary. You know what he really meant ;)

Monfils was equally dignified with his response to McEnroe last year when McEnroe tried to call him "unprofessional".

Good for Gael and Novak.

It must be the Eastbourne in them.

And you have the nerve to talk about "anti Rafa brigade" or whatever you call them.

Because Federer and Nadal were injured; that's the difference. Nadal was plagued with injury and appendicitis from 2012 - 2016 on and off, ending up on the sidelines for close on 15 months.

I feel Djokovic should have just said it's an honour to be compared to one of the greatest sportsmen of all time. Despite Tiger Wood's woes, he is still the face of golf and currently the biggest box office golfer in spite of being out of form.

Has Novak turned down John's job application or something?

What are you talking about. I just posted the article which I thought was of interest. I did not even offer my opinion until now.
You don't say !
When something nasty comes up about Fed or Novak, you just can't help yourself. You can't bother to watch is there any topic about it made already https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/ind...wing-marital-woes.593438/page-2#post-11365410
And we know about your opinion on the matter, you don't even have to say a word about it.

Factually untrue. I started a thread saying Djokovic might take a WC for Eastbourne; his fans, I thought, were grateful for the info. Read my opinion on the matter at #14 above. I don't comment on people's private lives because it's their business not mine.

Perception wise, Novak has declined as quickly as Woods did and for seemingly the same reasons; trouble at home.

Federer was not plagued with injuries in 2011. Other players have bad years and come back.

The face of golf? In 2017?

Good God, I'm not a fan of Djokovic, and *I* find these statements insulting.

You are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine.

Decimo with the long nose.

Next time you make a comment about Wimbledon putting an upper age of 35 for its participants you think better about your statement about lack of personal comments.

I don't follow golf so if you asked me in my sleep to name a golfer, I would immediately say Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy. Beyond that, you could put me in a torture chamber and I wouldn't come up with anyone else, maybe Arnold Palmer, Nick Faldo or Tony Jacklin if I tried hard enough.
