Measuring racquet specs with packaging on.....

I had a company measure specs for 5 PSVS's for me so that I could pick the one I wanted. I paid for this service. I received the racquet today. It was supposed to be 320g as per the company's spreadsheet. However, after I took of the handle plastic and the cardboard from the hoop, I measured it at 317g. I am thinking the company measured the specs with the packaging on. How would the swingweight be impacted?

Unless you’re buying a used racquet, most companies may remove the placard if they need to measure SW. They can put the placard back on. Plastic on the handles of new frames are not removed cuz then they’re no longer from the factory if they’re not replaced. If you after matching, you will still get frames that are close in mass and balance. SW too if placard is removed. If you’re going for specs, then just be aware mass will be a little off and what you’ll get is going to come out a little low. That’s a better situation than coming out a little high.

SW is exactly 10 points lower with the placard, it's always measured with it. Plastic is around 2.5g but has no impact on sw, and obviously is never taken off.

But why would you want a 320g Strike VS if its spec is 310g? And how do you expect them to have one, if Babolat's range is +/-7g?

the plastic is ~2g, so why do you think they measured specs w/ the placard in given that the difference was 3g? the placard weighs a lot more than 1g

Thats a false statement. All placards are not identical and just their impact on air resistance can alter SW measurements.

I wouldn't generalize that. The plastic at the handle won't have a meaningful impact on SW. The placard will.

Did you get swingweight numbers for the racquets they measured? This would give you an idea if the placards were on or off when the swingweights were taken.

I’ve never measured swingweight with the placard on due to air resistance leading to spurious numbers.

Given that most placards weigh 15-17g (similar to having strings in the hoop), I’d have expected an unstrung racquet with placard to have a higher swingweight than a strung racquet due to the increased air resistance with the placard.

How would the swingweight be impacted?
If you assume the plastic weighs nothing the placard will increase the SW by about 6 points. If you can measure the weight of the placket in grams, multiply the gram weight by 2, and you will have the appropriate SW impact of the placard.
