My friend who was able to look over it behind the paywall basically said that because Federer and Nadal are more respected and “loved” that anything Djokovic did in regards to titles won would be a fruitless pursuit because Federer and Nadal would always be remembered more.

I’d say the articles are correct though. Novak can win 50 majors and 90% of the worlds population will agree Federer and Nadal were better irrespective of numbers because people won’t necessarily care about Djokovic as much as tennis lovers would know he was the greatest

#1 Who cares - and if I see “earnings” or “endorsements” posted in here as legit arguments I’m going to facepalm. Everyone knows Federer is most popular - this will never change - he is a legend and deserves it. I find these “my dad has more fans than your dad” fights pathetic and sad.

#2 I would hope Wimbledon is treating their greatest ever champion that way, especially given that this could be his last ever - same could be said of every tournament he plays. When Nadal/Djokovic come towards retirement I suspect we’ll see similar deference paid to both. Federer should be getting treated better in all honesty.

#3 I guarantee the most important and historically relevant part of Wimbledon 2021 will be the winner, not “the most loved” or the best reception

I don't think so, Fed's endorsement numbers have always been out of the norm for tennis players. There's Fed, and then there's everybody else. Even when Nadal had higher numbers than Djokovic, Novak was much closer to him than Rafa to Fed.
