Medvedev backhand grip

talking about unconventional:). Did anyone notice that medvedev uses a split grip on the backhand? Hands are like an inch or so apart. Are there any other pros who do this?

It looks like Medvedev learned his strokes on that wall @Dragy hits on. 8-B
He was actually in a local academy. Seems coaches were not that nitpicking about techniques...
Would be interesting if he ever works on his strokes further on. He’s a smart guy, he says he doesn’t actually like how his strokes look. In the meantime he’s spiking with his results, which doesn’t suggest tweaking with form.

It would be beyond stupid to change his strokes now ... he is going to win majors with those ugly 8-B strokes. Ugly strokes ... pretty bank account ... pretty wife.(y)

His 2hbh is $ ... particularly dtl. I had picked him out this summer as a future major contender watching him never miss a 2hbh, (like Djoker) but surprised it was this fast. I enjoy watching him play ... smart ... figures it out. I really like how he can take the pace off his 2hbh and still look like he will never miss. He might need to build those legs up ... that is a lot of roadwork for those twigs.

The split grip gives him a shorter lever arm for better control. The power is generated from stepping in with weight transfer and extending the left arm through the hitting zone, not from leverage of the racquet length. His bh is one of the best.

I think the dom arm + racquet defines the lever ... both length/reach, and any added racquet lever/hinge around dom hand if hitting lag. The non dom arm/hand is free to move around the cabin 8-B. I have found split grip on ros with rh low and racquet lagged feels easier to bring rh up into contact for topspin.

It looks like Med hits big lag on FH ... but very little on 2hbh. He is not full 2hbh shovel (thx NYTA 8-B) like Hewitt ... but no big lag like Djokovic.

@00:45 below .. did not check frame by frame yet ... maybe some bigger lag in there
