Medvedev has a Rome title and Federer doesn't

This year Medvedev deserves to end the year at number 1. He is ahead in the race now. Even after AO he has won more ATP points than Alcaraz. And he probably will do great this year on grass too.

Medvedev has 6 different masters if he gets one more he’ll have as many different ones as Fed and Nadal. Pretty wild. I have a feeling in the post Nadal era a lot of people are going to have clay achievements that annoy Djokerer fans.
Didn’t Fedal have to do some of these in bo5 tho?

I swear people on this forum treat Thiem like he was some god tier player when he was only barely comparable to players like Tsitsipas/Zverev and I would strongly argue a worse player than Medvedev. Still, I'm here for the salt, Medvedev has been a refreshing player the last few years. He's unconventional but he's damn entertaining to watch and he's had a great 2023 so far!
I really like Meddy

Consistently quality player - and consistently underrated.

What are you talking about? The point was never that Med's a greater player than Rog on clay. Everyone knows Rog is way better, hence the thread. It looks like you take it as a dig taken at Rog when it's the complete opposite.
It is written with an intention to take a dig at federer

Noup, 2004-2007 period was not near prime Novak... Nadal did played great on grass but before 2008 he wasn't able to get any major outside clay..
Nadal was the best on Clay and Grass between 2005-08. On HC he had too many tough competitions like Federer,Murray,Roddick,Hewitt,Nakbandian.

If he would have played Next Gen mugs like Medvedev whom he owns 5-1. Zverev,Tsitsipas and others. He would have atleast made 4-5 HC Finals and might have won them avoiding Fed in the Finals

If... Problem for Nadal started in 2011 when Novak entered his prime.. Dices did match for Novak in Rome in 2008...

Nadal wasn't challenged on clay by anyone till 2010 apart from Federer beating him few times. Djokovic took him down convincingly in Rome 2011. I still feel if not for federer ..djokovic would have completed Calender slam that year

But he was not at his best that he could have beaten a peak version of Nadal that year. Federer always ran in to Peak Nadal on clay. He couldn't beat him despite giving him tough competition at times.

That is the difference.

Can medvedev beat peak Nadal on clay. He got smoked by grandpa Nadal on his best surface

This thread is showing us how important Rome is :D

Yep, watching more and more Fed matches of late, especially from the 2004-2009 era. It's insane seeing how much higher the level was back then compared to the last several years
What Fed matches did you watch haven't seen?

Doubt that RG is Nadal's living room

Let that sink in.
So what of it? Thread-worthy???

Holger Rune, Jack Sock, Federer & Medvedev all have a Paris Masters title. Nadal does not. Federer, Isner, Hurkacz, Alvarez & Medvedev have all won the Miami Open. Nadal never did.

Does this diminish Rafa's standing as one of the ATGs? I think not.

You are right.
It was the great Federer who stopped Djokovic that year, Nadal did not have the confidence that year. The annoying thing about Federer in 2000s and in 2010s till 2017 was that ineveitable failure vs Nadal, no sooner did Fed beat Novak we knew the final will again be 1 sided with Bull winning. Novak would have beaten Nadal, but Bull sneaked in the french open thanks to Federer.

Who is Alvarez and when was that?

It’s just a joke. He’s a Fed fan.

Don't bother, some guys go as far as denying he's a Rog fan just so they won't have to admit they misinterpreted OP's intent lol.

Tbh no fan/poster has a copyright over a player for others to not doubt their intentions, secondly this Natf poster comes across as too snooty to me who thinks too high of himself. You can see how quickly he used the word "morons" in reply to the poster T007 and how quickly he is announcing he is gonna put morons on ignore? as if people should care if they are ignored by him? That means he thinks others are supposed to know that he is a fed fan or else they are morons ? IMO he has an inflated sense of his importance, so if the few forum users are calling him out / unable to recognize him to be a fed fan then I think it is not surprising at all and he should get off his high horse.

That's another issue which I didn't talk about. But if someone says which player is his fav and clears the misunderstanding, why would they keep crying "hater" and "troll thread"? Makes no sense.

Top of my head, 03 Rome for example. Federer lost in the final to Mantilla. Draw before him was nothing special.

Have you ever looked who Mantilla beat to win that title? It was one of the greatest Masters runs of all time. It was an absolute clay gauntlet. A prime Federer would wipe the floor with Rune. If you’re insinuating Medvedev is a better clay player than Federer you’re a moron.

So now Mantilla is some sort of juggernaut? How many excuses will you guys spin. Federer had his chances to win Rome even without Nadal in the way. Federer had a significantly weaker draw than Medvedev did, and Medvedev until this year has been pathetic on clay. It's by far his worst surface, yet he found a way to play his best tennis and do it against tougher competition.

It wasn't just 03 btw, in 04 he lost to Costa in the 2nd round.

These Djokovic fans get crazier by the day lmao

Federer should be ashamed that he couldn't get it done against prime Nadal at MC and Rome. I bet he looks towards Tsitsipas and Medvedev trouncing the likes Fokina and Rune at these events these days and realizes he had it easy in comparison .

Heh...Completely asinine.

too bad fred couldn’t take down peak ned at rome

med proved his worth by defeating better clay court players in tsitsipas and tune

Statistics are always a reflection of the truth when player of same era/gen are compared, when age difference is 10+ then it becomes something else altogether and only then you cannot compare them......!

Murray's AO failure cannot be compared with Thomas Johansson's success because they are from different eras, but Murray's failure can be compared to Wawrinka's success and Murray can be criticized.

Federer's rome failure and Medvedev's success cannot be compared because they are from different eras, Federer was finished in 2019 and Med entered his prime then, this is different eras, so obviously Nadal wont be there to stop Medvedev .... nadal himself is a decade older, Med is form another era.

Nadal's Miami failure cannot be compared with Medvedev's Miami success, Nadal had enough chances to win there from 2005 till 2017, this is another era now, Roger/Novak are not gonna be around to stop Medvedev.

Thats why we cannot compare slam counts of 90s vs slam counts of baseline era as well, 14 slams in those days could be like 20+ slams today, Mathematically it doesn't make sense but different era, different conditions, different levels of difficulty.
