He seriously just quit the match. No MTO, not even a handshake, lost the first set to FAA and just walked off the court. One of the most surreal retirements I can remember. What amazing “sportsmanship”

Last year he only held 80% of the time on hard courts. De Minaur held more frequently. Not sure how - or if - he gets it back.

The funny thing is he actually bumped up in the rankings last week, just given how points dropped for other players. Gotta be reeeaaal careful with the Sunshine Double, though. He's defending a final and a semi, which at the moment looks pretty far out of reach. Wouldn't be surprised if he's out of the top 10 for clay season.

I'm willing to bet (hehe) that gambling and match fixing reaches much higher up in the rankings than many would suspect or want to admit. A result like this today certainly rings a few alarm bells, though Medvedev at least has the cover of being very clearly an impulsive, petulant man-child who could very well retire from a match for no reason at all even without any money at stake.
