Medvedev quits match with no explanation

I'm not the only one who is not interested in smelling Meddy's sheets. I prefer to pay attention to his tennis.

Dude are you even a tennis fan or are you just here to stick up for any Russian you can find?

The story was well known at the time, not my fault you don't pay attention.

Say whatever you want. It happened and people can judge him if they want to.

If he was not Russian I'm sure you could find some indignation about it.

Apart from one poster who linked Sinner's exoneration to the mafia that issue has been mercifully free of ethnic stereotyping.

Russians are usually not so lucky so I feel obligated to provide some balance.

Do you think ANY of the antipathy towards Russia is justified or is it all simply the derangement of people who don't see that she is just a peace loving country who wants to be left alone

A peace loving country wanting to be left alone - like the USA? Please enlighten us.

I like Felix, but he didn't handle this too well. Common courtesy requires that you walk over to your retiring opponent and ask what's wrong, etc. Instead he just sat there with a smirk on his face.
There is absolutely no onus on FAA to be the sportsman in this situation. If this is how Medvedev is going to conduct himself then so be it. Don't let Medvedev off the hook, let him own it.

They would have more respect for FAA if he cussed out the umpire and called him a small cat

ATP Doha 2025 has released a statement regarding Daniil Medvedev and his sudden withdrawal from the tournament: "Unfortunately, I suffered from food poisoning. I am very disappointed to end my campaign here in Doha this way, although I feel I was playing well.”

Is food poisoning contagious?
Dysentary can be highly contagious sometimes. (e.g. bacterial spread from bad water/food, contact with another person via shaking hands, and then eating, etc.)

Med probably should have said something to FAA and explained why he didn't want to shake hands.

I mean he played the match and touched the balls that Felix also touched, so it seems inexcuseable for him to not shake hands with Felix or tell him he couldn't play on.

What a clown. Can't believe some of you like this guy so much

Some of us spotted his shtty character a while back. Looking forward to the defenses of this
Who likes him? I never cared for him. Somewhat decent sportsman when winning, and just a disgusting human being when losing.

He seriously just quit the match. No MTO, not even a handshake, lost the first set to FAA and just walked off the court. One of the most surreal retirements I can remember. What amazing “sportsmanship”

Trying to find a full video - here’s one link:

Look at Felix’s face. No MTO called, no trainer, no handshake or acknowledgement of his opponent. He just quits and leaves.
He sucks man

Right right. Does the virus spread by eye contact or saying "sorry bro" to your opponent?

Stop being so willing to accept their reasons. These guys aren't normal people
I need to watch it again and see what else Med has to say about it, but it looked to me like there was a hurried acknowledgement from afar. Guy was getting the hell out of dodge because he had the squirts I think. Very scary situation to be going through on an international sporting broadcast lol

Did Russia invade Ukraine of their own free will, or were they tricked/manipulated into it by the US and NATO?
Of course, one may dislike the politics or actions of the leaders of a country. Just ask the Palestinians about their opinions concerning Israel and US politics. But to extent this aversion to all people born in such country is another matter entirely.

There came a point in the 1930s when ordinary Germans were no longer excused from the actions of their leaders. I had empathy and compassion for ordinary Palestinians before 10/7, and for ordinary Russians before the Ukraine invasion.

But in wartime, the "well, not ALL of them--" goes out the window and it comes time to choose which side you prefer to win, because now someone has to win. And most of us have picked the less brutal side that didn't start the current hostilities.

Before all this, I would assume that a Russian wasn't a hateful nationalist but after the last two years...they've got to let me know that. I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt anymore and I'm not going to waste any breath on defending the silent majority while Ukraine burns. Ditto Hamas and Israel

Do we really need the benefit of your conformist views on global politics, which you probably learnt in childhood and have nothing to do with recent events?

I have seen the @Sport for years, and never have I seen something so unprofessional.
I do. Russian hockey players after losing the final at the World Ice Hockey Championship in 2015 year, when they left the ceremony without listening to the champions's anthem and demonstratively took off their silver medals. Ovechkin was the only one, who don't followed his team's disgraceful behavior.

Maybe he thinks, why play if other players are doping and getting away with it? WADA's clowning around can make players distrust the whole tennis system. I won't be surprised if tennis players would start to revolt or boycott ATP and WTA. Many tennis players feel injustice in the doping system now.
That's the worst part about the whole Sinner case, that tennis players will stop trusting the system of their sport. That anyone with enough money and influence will, with the help of lawyers, create a cover story to explain away a positive test for a banned substance. Sinner has tarnished the reputation of tennis, and I will not forgive him for that.

In Dubai, Stearns had GI issues and Kostyuk had food poisoning. It's not unlikely that something happened to him too. Don't have to overanalyze everything.

Even if the case, have the courtesy to tell your opponent what happened and say GG.

Sport and unprofessionalism go together like peas in a pod. There are many incidents of this kind.

Banning Russians from Wimbledon was far more disgraceful behaviour, as is de-flagging them.

Elevating the honor of an anti-doping program above the concern for justice for individual players indicates an aberrant set of priorities. Who the crap cares whether the players trust ITIA/WADA or not? If they don't, it's up to these agencies to reinvent themselves.

Nonsense. The public record is now overwhelmingly clear that Sinner didn't do anything wrong except rely on unreliable staff members. Going forward, the oceans of noxious, unfounded opinions here and in other parts of the online world will become largely irrelevant. The Sinner case will become a cautionary tale about how players are at risk from careless employees, and/or an illustration of the flaws in the late-phase WADA system that arose from a combination of overly sensitive testing and overly harsh penalty provisions.

Ever since he lost to Sinner at the Australian Open final of 2024 his form has been patchy, if not poor by his standards.

His heart isn't in it.

It's interesting how some of the biggest conspiracy theorists on this forum, ones who can't go a day without stirring up BS rumors and gossip about pros ("read between the lines" type guys) , are also the ones who have the most vanilla and conformist views on politics which is an area where I think they should actually focus their conspiratorial proclivities towards as almost everything that gets reported about global politics is propaganda and spin.

The Djoker was not playing well against Zverev. He was playing through the severe pain of a Grade 2 Hip Adductor tear.

He lost in a first set TB by 2 points. That's playing well against the world #2. He's not a 20-30 ranked player.
Playing not well is losing 6-4 or worse.
