Medvedev reaching the final against Nadal/Djokovic ?

It's silly to say this, but I start to think that Medvedev will have a good chance to reach the FO Final.

He seem to find his form and his draw is good. No way Opelka is beating him. He is not winning any rally against Medvedev. Garin will be HIS only and toughest challenge and Garin barely beat a choking McDonald. IF Medvedev beat Garin, no one will be stopping him.

Then Zverev and Tsitsipas cannot beat him anymore. Medvedev has their number and grind them to oblivion. And Zverev can have a Ruud awakening and Tsitsipas with his mediocre return can lose in 3 tie-break against Isner (he was broken many times against a mediocre Martinez)

Medvedev had not won a match in Paris before but it's crazy to think he has the chance to make the final against Nadal (or Djokovic). The FO had stories like that before, like Verkerk making the FO 2003 Final, like Tin Henman making the FO 2004 SF and leading against Coria. It wouldn't be a surprise at all.

And I think Medvedev has more chances against Nadal than Zverev (who can turn to DFrev and Pushrev) and Tsitsipas (with his OHBH).

Remember Murray who was a mug on clay ? He make the FO 2016 Final.

Just making the quarterfinal would be a great accomplishment for Medvedev.

He couldn’t beat Tsitsipas and Zverev back to back to make the final if that was required, I don’t think. But who knows how the draw will work out.

Zverev is struggling big time against Otte and Safiullin and Zverev is not really a clay courter too. He relies heavily on his serve and pushing. Nothing indicate that Zverev will make the SF (he can lose to Ruud) and even, he lost 4 of the last 5 matches against Medvedev. He has his number.
Tsitsipas can and should beat Medvedev on clay, but Medvedev own him mentally. It will make the difference. Tsitsipas cannot beat Medvedev because the Russian is in his head. Tsitsipas in the tight moments will choke.

If he gets through Opelka despite what a lot of people are saying I think he makes the quarters. Opelka will be a big test simply because his serve will make it a very close match. Medvedev will not be able to break him as easily as Paul.

You’re just getting caught in the moment. He’s not reaching the final.

Tsisipas easily has the better clay game. So does Zverev, in the bottom half!

No one doubts that, but everyone also knows how big head cases they are. Zverev was almost out of here against a qualifier Tsitsipas always struggles against Medvedev and has only managed to win won match against him. It doesn’t matter how many clay matches you have won if you can’t produce you best tennis when you need it most.

Opelka is not going to be easy one bit. Unlike general perception he can rally a bit as well.

However proud of madlad making it this far. A R4 or QF is an amazing result. Finals is possible only if one of Tsitsipas or Zverev lose and the guy who beat them is effed up by schedule.

But at least Medvedev is somewhat looking better on the surface now.
