Medvedev: Roland Garros conditions are similar to Australian Open

I also thought about making a thread about this. You can bash me as much as you want for calling it the Djokovic Open, but now we actually have the players saying the same thing and prove I was right. Federer servebotting like crazy today is another proof. There are 3 hardcourt slams now. Djokovic is the luckiest player of all time.
Ok but what sense does it make to call it the Djokovic open? It's got to relate to something interesting or funny, like the Berrettini open or the Real Slam. Just because some players call it low bouncing doesn't mean it's suddenly the "Djokovic Open". There are other players that do well on low bouncing surfaces, like Federer.

He has a Djokovic obsession

Circle of life.

They neutered every fast court in the world a couple decades ago, making them all play like third world dirt gardens. Artificially inflated the careers of every one dimensional, baseline-grinding, net-phobic spin monkey the whole century so far.

Be nice to see someone with actual tennis skill win the French for a change instead of one of these legions of cheap David Ferrer knockoffs.

Netphobic spin monkey?? :-D:-D

No, Federer proved he was right today. Did you see his servebotting? This is similar to how he serves at Wimbledon.

“Servebotting” by a 6’1 player hitting Avg. 1st serve speed of 106 mph. You’re confusing the talent to hit lines with “servebotting.” 14,000+ messages and not single idea about the game still.

This has been going on since last year when RG moved to the fall. He’s obsessed with trying to make people think Djokovic is the luckiest player to ever play tennis and Nadal is the one who has it the toughest, on clay, no less.

Not sure what they did exactly, but the colour of the court looks very weird, and it's now playing similar to Rod Laver Arena- fast and low bouncing.
French Tennis Federation will do anything.
Courts look pretty high bouncing to me actually on PC and Lenglen. Look faster and lower on outside courts.

As if it means the same thing will happen this year. The court looks pathetic right now. It is a bad bouncing orange hardcourt, something like that. Real Djokovic Open. The tournament barely started, and I'm already tired from it.

Oh yes, that's true. Nadal will be lucky to beat Popryn this year. I don't see him reaching the second week.

End of the day, its a clay court, doesn't matter how much they tweak it, they can only do so much.

Last year I thought it was the worse it could get with the balls and conditions, guess what, same outcome.

The guy was really comfortable hitting flat from both wings and easily crushing Bublik in straights. That indicated how fast and low bouncing the surface at PC was today.
Wishful thinking to maintain the hope for Djokovic. Yes, it is so "fast" that Nadal will win the title again.

Federer also servebotted his path to the 2019 RG SF. Federer is a clay court force. Always has been. Always will be. If not for Nadal, who knows whether Federer would have won RG 2019.

Some commentators have noted that the colour on the courts is slightly different to normal years. It seems like they've been tinkering with the surface.

Conditions are similar to Austrlian Open according to tennis expert Medvedev. Fast and low bouncing?

So it will be 3 sets against him in the final just like at AO this yr.

Ok Mr. Sunshine. Jeez, finally an outdoors RG again, with Nadal in great form, and then you start with this nonsense. Just try to enjoy the tennis without worrying about that 0.1% chance that Nadal doesn't win the tournament.

Ball is low bouncing because no one applies top spin like Nadal can.

Watching Nadal's practice sessions, he's not complaining and hitting quite well.

How ridiculous is it to be thinking that if Djokovic beat Nadal, Meddy might take down Nole in the final and be RG champ.

I know clay can be a bit different and the balls do change from tournament to tournament but RG more like AO than Madrid?

I’m also trying to reconcile this Dr. Jekyll with the following Mr. Hyde. I suspect there is no reconciliation without some much needed therapy:

Perhaps it´s the new Wilson balls, I know they changed last year but maybe it´s showing the effects now with the normal RG weather.

Med to beat Ned 6-0 6-0 6-0 and save tennis from destruction

They are no longer using the wilson ball from last year. Medvedev mentioned the balls are lighter this year.

So also lighter balls? What a joke. Looks like the organizers are just Djokovic fans who want to do everything in order to help him. The roof didn't work last year, so now they change the balls? This slam simply turned into a big joke in the last few years. (after being the best slam for a very long time)

Balls are comparatively lighter because it's no longer very cold and humid conditions like last year, so balls cannot soak up moisture + clay to become heavy like last year.
