Medvedev says "nationality plays a key role"

It would be true in that case, I'd take no offense.
Oh, here in Russia if we don't like someone we often come and punch him in teeth. Just a Russian tradition. No offense. So be careful about what is acceptable for you. :)

PS: personally I won't kill a fly and behaving bad is unacceptable for me.

So because you like borshch and women you are ok with his showing fingers to the crowd and calling umpire a pus.y? Wow, that had to be a really nice borshch! :) Majority of Russians don't support his rude behaviour. If you read Russian Eurosport and translate comments you will see majority comments of being ashamed of him.
I’m fine with Med flipping the bird. I’m more or less fine with the “small cat” comment. The screaming (“Look at me!”) was a bit much and prob crossed a line. But you need characters like Med to spice up the game.

And yes, my enjoyment of Borscht & Women certainly outweigh any criticism of Med’s behavior. Oops, and Chekhov. Can’t forget him.

I agree with what you said and especially pictures. :)

I like spice in tennis and little drama too. But spice can be spicy and fun and can be negative, unpleasant, frustrating. When Shapovalov hit an umpire in the eye - that was fun and I laughed (stupid Russian), because it was not negative. Med acted like a moron - angry, unpleasant, disgusting. That is my point.

By the way, Borshch is a Ukrainian meal. But if we conquer Ukraine then Borshch will be ours.

I think Shapo nearly taking out that dude’s eye is way worse than Medvedev’s behavior.

Well, Shapovalov did not do that intentionally. That was a bad idea, but that was spicy. I am glad that umpire was Ok. But Med intentionally wanted to humuliate, insult umpire, crowd and that is unacceptable. He knew what he was doing.
Med is sorta like a modern Jimmy Connors. A lot of people couldn’t stand him. But many loved his attitude and antics. Ultimately, in a buttoned up sport like Tennis, you need characters like that. I get your point though.

It was 100% Medvedev's fault in not tackling the crowd well.

He should have politely said at the end of his match with Kyrgios that " I understand the sentiments of the crowd towards Nick who is a home fav here and a great player .... " Something like this would have pacified them instead of the "Show respect for Jim Courier" rant and later calling the crowd low IQ. Also his shouting at the umpire didn't make things any better, plus the comment " What would Novak have done" also was pretty dumb from Medvedev, this is not the season to praise Novak in front of an Australian crowd, Nole is basically a villian for the crowd at this time and Daniel should have considered this.

He should have known that if he is to face Rafael Nadal in the final then he would need the crowd behind him/at least not too anti him as it was a 100% certain that the crowd were all pro Rafa and wanting him to take 21 before Novak because of what transpired before the tournament began.

Med was only cheered against because he was playing crowd favourites. Kyrgios is an Aussie so obviously they're gonna be behind Nick, Stefanos has a ton of support from Greek-Australians living in Melbourne, and Rafa is Rafa.

If we're talking nationality, then why were Marat Safin and Li Na two of Australia's favourite foreign athletes during their hey-day?
