Medvedev will never win a Slam

Typically over-hyped 'next-gen' guy with no results to back it up.

People are actually predicting he will win Grand Slams!? I guess that's the usual short-attention span nature of people today - a guy achieves a modicum of success and everyone's all aboard the hype-train. Well, I prefer to take a more tempered, realistic approach to things and not buy into any hype.

What's this guy's Slam record? Zero. That's right, so the overwhelming tendency is for things to stay as they are; a guy with zero Slams is likely to remain at zero Slams until the end of his career. He's not that young, let's not forget and has a game built around retrieving since he has no weapons. Furthermore, his body is not built for retrieving so his fundamental strategy is at odds with his anatomy.

I think he will end his career with no more Masters (than what he already has achieved) and zero Slams, and I can't believe I seem to be the one of the only people sensible enough not to buy into the mindless hype.

In the last 2 months he won more masters titles than Del Potro, Cilic and Wawrinka did in their whole careers. Reached the US Open final and pushed Nadal to the limits. And it's not like Medvedev choked in this final. He was extremely clutch and fought until the last point. Nadal had to give everything to finish this beast. I'm not saying he will become a great player, too early to talk about that. But right now I see no reason to say he is over-hyped. He deserves some credit for what he is doing.

Medvedev is nr 1 in making..... The mental power he has is the biggest advantage. He began to win matches like big 3 and no next gen has done this yet. His style of play is very efficient and has 70% chance to win a match. The poster is just a troll who is scared his favourite player will go down.

Medvedev reached a Grand Slam final (USO 2019) and had chances to defeat Nadal. Isn't that a result to back it up? How many next gen players have reached a Slam final and being close to win it? Zero. Therefore, he ain't the "typical" next gen guy.

I guess this is the nature of blind people. They have zero predictive abilities.

People will laugh at this thread for centuries, if not millenials.

I am not saying you are wrong, but have you wondered in 2 years time who is gonna actually win the Slams?

Surely one of those "overhyped next gen players".

And it's not like Thiem or Zverev have ever had such a stretch. He nearly beat Nadal from 2 sets down in his 1st Slam final, a well playing Nadal nonetheless.

I like his chances, he bloomed at the perfect time.

I agree that overhype is ridiculous (e.g. the poll asking if he is the next all time great), but the stuff you're talking is no less so. Frankly... More so. He's won the last 2 1000's, but now he's never going to win anything else on this level because you have decreed it so?

What is it... 18 sets in a row, 20 of the last 21 if you include the US Open final, and he's never going to win anything of significance again? Seems a legit, measured, reasonable opinion, sure.

Unless he gets hurt, I think he will win one or more slams. For those that don't think so, what are his glaring weaknesses?

Medvedev will have plenty of opportunities to win the Grand Slam tournament in the decade of 2020s. Fedalovic will not dominate all 2020s decade.

Someone will have to win slams in the future and at the very least Medvedev looks like he'll be consistent enough to put himself in contention on a semi-regular basis. Once the Big 3 (more specifically Djokovic and Nadal at this point) are done at the top level it's hard to see him not winning several majors.

He is different. He has the right mentality, attitude and game to do great things unlike other next gen

The hype is obvious but saying he’ll not win any more masters nor slams is a bit harsh. This guy has some assets after all: excellent serve both 1st and 2nd, very good BH, taking the ball early/ playing inside the court - this makes him uncomfortable for many guys, great mentality, tennis IQ - he seems to possess this ability to adapt his game to different situations. As for now - he has no glaring weeknesses to exploit. Maybe he’ll get figured out.!I agree his grinding/ retrieving style of play coupled with how his body is built and with his height are question marks for his future success.

Yeah...c'mon.

Unless he gets busted for a doping infraction, he's winning a slam within the next two seasons. He's insanely consistent right now and never gets tired.

When you go on a tear like that lasting + 2 months, you're bound to win something big sooner or later.

Reminds me of the 4 slam finals i lost between 1980-1983, even while reaching no 1: everybody had Mac beating me in the 1984 RG final, and i showed them.

It was bare obvious he was gonna win a slam. The only point of discussion was if he was gonna be world no.1, which he was, but a lot of people argue it was a false no.1 due to the Djokovic fiasco.

Have to say, Medvedev clearly underachieved after showing such great potential at the end of 2019. After the level he was showing back then, winning just 1 slam (especially in this era) is totally inexcusable.

Because he cut back on aggressive play, taking initiative etc and become merely a pusher with big serve.

He wasn't really number 1. Nothing has been correct in the points calculation since April 2020. It's leveling out again, but strictly speaking, the fraud against Novak can never be made up for. Just like with Cassius Clay aka Ali. You can't make up for that kind of behavior. You did wrong and he was the one who suffered.
