Medvedev's Secret Soft Spot: McDonald's!

Of course, maybe it is just the places in my neck of the woods. Maybe the KFC fries are outstanding elsewhere. I do remember Gordon Ramsay having a go at the KFC fries. Again, he is going to have a go at every fast food place so that isn't really shocking. I did love the gravy in the past. Not so much now.

KFC is somewhere you absolutely have to eat it at the restaurant itself. When you do its great. Anything past 10 minutes and it's game over for most of their items. Really that's fast food in general though as you said.

McDonald's can taste like a totally different place in other parts of the world and have different things in the menu. I've tried McDonald's in Europe, Asia, and USA. The spicy chicken sandwich in China was great. There's nothing similar on the menu in USA. Totally different item.

Chicken Maharaja Mac

I'm more of a KFC/kebab kind of junk food eater. Or subs.

Subs are everything!

Whoa, it's been a LONG time since I've been to KFC (I've always preferred Church's Chicken! Yea!). I don't remember KFC selling fries, lol.

You know what's up lol. Church's is life.

I guess I never ordered fries with fried chicken, as I've never had the fries of other fried chicken places. Church's had some good fried okra!

The okra!!

Really? I seem to remember that where I live KFC had fries already in 2006.
Think it's a newer thing in the States. Maybe a few years now. I don't think they had fries 10 years ago.

Yeah we've always had potato wedges at KFC and they were phenomenal. They just switched to fries here last year and it's a move I find absolutely terrible. You can get fries anywhere (and I don't like fries with fried chicken) and their wedges were distinct.

When you are poor, you eat that, that is perfectly normal. I don't really like this because it is bad for you big time. so poor people get unhealthy foods. I want to make macdonald and other fast food chains to serve only healthy foods. like Rice and Tofu and so on.

McDonalds serves healthy stuff like salads. Not their fault that you don't buy them.

McD is cheap Protein.

Not all salads are "healthy". Especially the ones from McD's.

Croutons, Ranch Sauce, Lettuce. Empty Calories. Weak Veggies without any minerals/vitamins.

Much rather go for their sandwich without the bread for the protein at least.

No Kale, Spinach, Broccoli...use those instead for their Minerals/Vitamins.

KFC in Europe, really fast food in general is much more high quality and also expensive than in the US. I get why he would like it.

IMO fast food gets a bad rap. If you don’t drink the soda it’s a relatively high protein meal, goes down easily, doesn’t spike insulin or do anything unexpected to your digestion. I could name at least 10 people I know closely who order a 40g sugar venti caramel cream monstrosity daily from Starbucks but would never touch McDonalds. Which is healthier?

This.

Friends ordered a McDonald’s recently… I had 2 double cheeseburgers, 20 nuggets and 5 chicken selects.Quite high on fat and salt but a lot of protein and was still in a calorie deficit.

Really? That surprising thought you’d have everything there! They taste so good with the sour cream and chive dip they come with. Ffs I want a McDonald’s now .

o_O we never had that.
Yeah this thread made me want Mcds too lol. Went shopping for stuff to do homemade burgers and nuggets here lol. Gonna throw down after work tmrw.

I've never been sold on the McDonald's haterade cuz much of it strikes me as plain class condescension. (Seriously, try to name one MD's detractor/shunner in your life who's not at least comfortably middle-class.) You know, the kind of self-congratulatory hot air you see from the coastal types that talk the big talk about fighting poverty but would suddenly sing a different tune if a few homeless people began showing up across the street.

Besides Mickey D's is a godsend for those nite owls (ahem) who sometimes badly need a bite at 2-3 in the morning. Or when you're traveling out of town and need a quick stop to refuel, as anyone who's taken long road trips would know. Globalization may have its issues but I can't say this mass penetration of the market is one of 'em.

A couple more things:

The sausage burritos and steak mcmuffins too :X3: bc of covid the steak mcmuffs are discontinued, I'm so mad
Sausage and egg McMuffin ftw. (y)

The (Egg) McMuffin is perfection. Like the BK Whopper or Chick-fil-A sauce it just can't be improved upon. Steak in a McMuffin? No wonder it fizzled out.

Isn't McDonalds everyone's soft spot? I've cut down going there a LOT in my old age, but I still LOVE their regular burger (no cheese), Big Mac, and fish. And, they still have the best fries.
KFC can compete with Mc in the fries department, IMO.

Never been a fan of fries in general, but among the biggies I do think McFries are tops. Others just don't have that crispiness.

(BTW count me among those who never heard of KFC fries. Doubt they're very good anyway.)

And speaking of class condescension....

You got it.

And yeah you wanna avoid sodas in the first place. Thankfully that's not very tough for moi cuz water is my go-to beverage.

Oh no, believe me the steak one was easily the best and the grilled onions really set it off. It only went away bc of the prices of beef during Covid. Plus I try not to eat pork now anyway (even if I still did, it's honestly better than the others) but it needs to come back for multiple reasons. The steak was well-seasoned too.

The only pickle I've ever enjoyed in my entire life was in McDonalds cheeseburgers.
It is tremendously tasty pickle, whereas pickle isn't even a food I'd eat otherwise.
Whatever they do to prepare it, is genius.

Same with the way their cheap, processed cheese somehow tastes so good.

Mcd's is certainly healthier and has less sh*t in it than even 15-20 yrs ago due to pressure from internal/external sources. So much less of a guilty pleasure as before :)

Was sorry to see Egg White Delight disappear from NYC metro area menus. Yes, the ham and the cheese were sliced so thin you could almost see through them, but they kept it fairly lean and only 250 calories.

REAL reason Medvedev loves Macdonals is in Russia, burgers there are different than here in USA. in russia, it is much more of Gormet style burger, totally different than here.

If you eat only the burger then it’s just ground beef though you’re eating ground beef (presumably the lowest grade that can pass inspection) from an indeterminate number of animals. :sneaky:

I was curious about the bun. It does taste good to me. But even the bun is kinda junky. Nutritionally empty flour (processed to strip out nutrients and then “enriched”), sugar and also dough conditioners to make sure the bun will be preserved for the next generation. Many items there seem to be high in fat, sugar and salt which is probably why we like it but it’s not exactly the nutritious choice.

The onions seem ok. Ingredients in the onions = onions. (y)

The Minute Maid slushie is essentially a glass of sugar. 66 grams (about 1/3 of a cup) of sugar in a medium size. If you’re strong you can try to down a large size which is 93g of sugar (almost 1/2 cup).

OK, now I need a McD burger and fries.:giggle:

I always schedule my annual physical for an early morning in July. Right afterwards, I have made it a tradition to stop at McDonalds and order their Egg & Sausage McMuffin sandwich. Delicious. Especially after fasting for 12 hours. That is really the only time I ever eat their food (sorry McDondalds) but I always look forward to it.

I don’t mean to obsess about the McD’s Minute Maid slushie but I imagine the development team (or chefs as McDs would have us fantasize) strategizing how to sell people a half a cup of sugar as something they could eat.:-D Days of meetings and then: “I got it ! Let’s just swirl it around in some water and add some coloring !” By comparison the McD burger is very healthy food.
