Mega String Review

T1000

Legend
So over the past month I've played with 8 different string combinations in my custom TFight 320 vo2 max. I played with a 4 1/2 (L4) grip size with a kirschbaum or yonex overgrip. All strings were strung at 23/21 kgs (about 50/47 lbs) with a tecnifibre logo dampener. I have 4 grams at 3 and 9, one gram at 11 and 1, and 5 grams under the grip to counterbalance the weight, so it is still at 6 pts HL.

This is all my opinion, not law. I am a 3.5-4.0 serve and volleyer/all court player. I'm 17 years old, 6'2" and around 140 lbs. I play 4 singles on my high school team and play USTA tournaments, as well as non USTA tournaments. I play three days a week not including competition.

1. Luxilon Big Banger alu Power 16g
I did not enjoy this string in my frame. I served well with it, I was hitting aces and getting a lot of free points with it. That's where the positive review ends. On groundstrokes, I did not feel that the string bit the ball well, and it felt dead. I got this racquet strung from TW 3 weeks before I had a chance to play with it so that definitely affected the testing. I did not volley that much with these strings so I don't have enough experience to comment. Return of serves felt really bad, did not feel like I had enough control. I've played with these strings before and like them but this was not a positive play test.

2. Luxilon Big Banger alu Rough 16L
This was my favorite string out of all the ones I have tested in this racquet. It really bit the ball well and I got a ton of pace on groundstrokes. My balls were bouncing higher and I felt I could swing harder without loss of control. MY serve mph went down, but my kickers and sliders were a lot more effective. Volleys were good for a poly, but I didn't feel that comfortable at net, I prefer a multi or NG when playing the net. I want to make this my main string but unfortunately it's not cheap.

3. Kirschbaum Touch Multifibre 17g/Kirschbaum Competition 17g
Volleys and touch shots were solid. I was making volleys with ease and placing them wherever I wanted to. Dropshots and slices were amazing and stayed low to the ground. MY shots had a lot of pace on them, but this string does not bite the ball well. I had a tendency to hit flat and overhit a lot. I wouldn't mind this for doubles or if I was strictly playing the net but that is nearly impossible today with the new technologies.

4. Kirschbaum Competition 17g
Really nothing outstanding, good or bad, from this string. I have no complaints and would use this string any time, but it has nothing that is absolutely amazing either.

5. Genesis Spin X 17g Red
This string was a lower power Big Banger Rough. It did everything rough did without the extra power. I need the extra power so this was my second favorite test.

6. Genesis Black Magic 17g
This is the best feeling poly I have ever used. Touch shots and volleys are absolutely amazing. I did not get the pace or bite that I wanted but It was still solid in those areas. This poly volleys just as well as Natural Gut in my opinion, I loved it at the net.

7. Pro Supex Big Ace Red 17g
See the alu power (#1) review, pretty much the same thing without the wait.

your lux review doesn't make sense. The ALU rough shouldn't have a different power level than ALU smooth. It is the same string.

Thanks for the review. I don't use poly's that much, so it's helpful when I want to recommend one. The main thing you showed is that there are trade-offs with each string, which is something I emphasize to people when they are considering a change.

Ummm...no there aren't notice the BB Alu Rough is a 16L while the regular is a 16G the slightly thinner string allows BB Alu Rough more power.
