Mental/Game Improvement Books

After a heartbreaking loss last week in a tournament, I was wondering if there are any self-help books out there that you all would recommend for mental/game improvement? I have seen a few online, but not really sure which ones are the best - outside of "The Inner Game of Tennis."

Thanks a bunch for your recommendations!

Dr. Allen Fox's books. He's a tennis psychologist, past top ten player, Davis Cup, Wimbledon quarters, and coached national number 1 teams at Pepperdine University for a decade. Just finished his latest book and it was excellent. He's been there and knows his stuff.

I definitely agre with Nick Arnold: "Winning Ugly" by Brad Gilbert is a terrific book for anyone who has been playing competitive tennis for less than two years.

I'd go with either "The New Toughness Training for Sports" by Jim Loehr, or "The Best Tennis of Your Life" by Jeff Greenwald. Both can be bought for cheap (used) at amazon.

Winning the Mental Match by Allen Fox is great! Reminds me that I should get it out and go over certain parts again. :)

I still re-read it occasionally because it's applicable to higher level players as well.

What I like about the book (Winning Ugly) is that it really helps beginners understand how to think about tennis and tennis matches. You're right, though, I should pick it up again.

I've read just about every tennis book there is & most recommend:
Vision Tennis by Michael Zosel
Tennis Playing the Mental Game by David Ranney
They are similar but more enjoyable to read than the others mentioned

lol. Every pusher that ever shows up and says, "you serve first" (I just played one of these yesterday, he said, "I always let my opponents serve first.") is a Winning Ugly guy. Throw in the dead Penn balls and a goofy outfit and there you have it, a master of psy warfare.
